my advice is always use a 'handle' instead of a real name, firstly you avoid being mel669@XXX, secondly you have that degree of anonymity that you seem to be craving.

I even go so far as recommending a totally false id from time to time. i.e. DoB, name, career, etc. it doe s depend on who it is but obviously some people don't want to be identified.

This one has got me confused. Isn't the name you are trying to get rid of the one in your signature or is it coincidence somebody has a user name the same ?
