Re: What's this about?

I'm Not too sure how the system works but I get one of those emails (similar) every month because I pay monthly.
I suspect that it’s just a reminder to let you know that it has been 12 months since you last donated.
Again, I’m not too sure about the extras. I only know as much as everyone else. After you have donated your username gets added to the “Donater” list. See here and I presume, after 12 months it gets removed.

Re: What's this about?

You get to use larger avatars, get access to the text under your name, ghet access to teh gallery without certain number of posts etc.

as per costs to run a site like this....

no margaret, teh ads don't pay for it by a long chalk. Roy luckily makes hi money elsewhere, teh donations people make 'help' but I doubt they and teh ads get anywhere near covering the costs. and that of course is without considering teh ampount of time it takes to run the site. It takes longer than people think to maintain a place like this and if yoy worked even at minimum wage you'd be surprised at teh cost.

H.B.C. couldn't even manage to run one successfully when given £591,000.00 to do so.

Re: What's this about?

let s be honest, running a website is never about any set of rules, who gets there first, who has the best site, its all about who randomly has the most popular site with a membership reluctant to move.

common sense is nowt to do with it. as such Hyndburn life had no chance.

Re: What's this about?

Hyndburn council has an IT department, including workers who are more than capable of making a website miles better than the one produced. For some reason unknown to us they deemed it necessary to use outside help, costing us money.

They could have had a half decent forum addition to their website at no extra cost to the tax payer.

Their ineptitude astounds me sometimes.... well most of the time.

Re: What's this about?

I really need to reword that email! The donate system in this software is actually designed for subscription sites where you get access to the forums for a fee. However, it was a ready built system with integration to paypal so was adapted as a donation system. Nobody will lose access!

Also, the adverts do not pay for the site, they just help with costs. One day when I get time to approach local businesses and use proper targetting then they may.

This is not quite right
you get to use larger avatars and the text under your name can be edited
the gallery can be used anytime but non donators are restricted to the amount you can upload this is more after donations
you get free access to the Arcade without having to make 5 posts a day
And the knowledge your helping to supporting a great site

I'm like you Len I donate every month and I aways get an Email every month, I also got the one about £20 as when I first donated I made a £20 donation but later made it into a regular smaller monthly amount, when I first got the Email I PMd Mick and Roy and they just said carry on it'll be okay
