It says "Not to be taken". I hope you didn't!

They're definitely not whiskey bottles, can't help you.

Re: Anyone know about bottles?

There is a demand for old bottles, especially unusual one.
I've seen a magazine all about bottle collecting, I'm sure you will find the site on line.

Certainly not whiskey, they could be old poison bottles though ;)

searching "not to be taken" comes up with these types of bottles being linked with poison. Plenty being sold on ebay Collectible Poison Bottles from Pre-1900 | eBay

disgusting someone would dump a load of bottles that held poison inside.

It's surprising what some folk dump,I've been back this morning and collected a big bag full.
There are thousands of old bottles there, all shapes and colours from blues, greens to clear.

Re: Anyone know about bottles?

I think I should get 10% for suggesting selling them Accyexplorer.

We were excavating part of the old railway line just short of the Martholme viaduct on the Read side a few years ago.
The number of old beer bottles we found which had been thrown from trains was amazing.
Some very early last century with brewers name moulded in the side.
The farmer took them away and said they would fetch a few quid.
Once again I never got my cut.

Never been hit with one but I'm an expert at emptying them. If AccyX is collecting empty bottles I'm his man.

I'm puzzled by the site. First thought -an old tip but the ground looks rocky and the bottles are on the surface?

I can just hear that gentle voice shrieking 'Either those bottles go or I do!'.

Very true but,These bottles would break your skull before smashing, some of the glass is a inch thick :D

Yes,No digging needed,if these are on the surface, one wonders what lays beneath...Hmmmm.

I've started my collection with a boom (about 50+) And our peg knows where the door is :D

Is the 10% negotiable,seems a little steep :D

I may give you a little karma for pegging the site though ;)

Think I need a expert as some of the bottles are quite unusual and there is also quite a few bones (no skulls).

Here is one of the bottles:-
