Kellogg's Cornflake House

Hi, hoping someone is going to able help us, we were out for a walk & passed a house on Burnley rd, which my wife was told by her uncle, when she was much younger, was given away by Kellogg's Cornflakes.
The winners had to keep the house for a certain amount of time before being able to sell. Does anyone remember any thing about this?? Or was her uncle winding her up??

'win A House With Kelloggs Cornflakes'....did Anyone Ever Win One? in The AnswerBank: History

From what I read there were rumours all around the country that someones new house was the Kelloggs house.

When I lived on Broadfield, Ossy the house lower down than ours was said to have been won via Kelloggs. At the time (1980's) a family who had a grocery business on Accy market lived there.

This is no wind up, as you turn left at the Griffins Head pub on Burnley Road, turn back on yourself, down the road that runs parallel with Burnley Road; the last house on the right was won in a competition in the 1960s/ or early 1970s with Kelloggs, it has been known as the Kelloggs House ever since. This is fact,(a good mate of mine used to live there for many year's).As ever, stay happy,
Your's Taddy.

Having seen the quality of construction on many modern houses, I wouldn't be surprised if they were given away in a packet of cornflakes. :)

The house was built to the winners plans/specifications, so you comment does not really apply. Your's Taddy.

I remember the competition, I'd asked my dad if he was going to enter it, don't be daft lad, he replied, if I won I wouldn't be able to afford the rates on my wages, they'd be twice the rent we pay now!
