a question for you

Does coleslaw count as one of your 5 veg portions a day?

Because it is veg - carrots, cabbage and onions - just covered in mayonnaise.

I think it would be safe to say that one serve of coleslaw = one portion of your five a day fruit and veggies......OK, i know there is more than just one veg, but you aren't eating the whole of a carrot or a portion of Cabbage and onions.

Re: a question for you

It depends on the size of the portion rather than the number of actually fruit/veg in the serving.

If it is double the size of the usual portion then, yes it will count as two...or three if you are particularly greedy/hungry.
The size of the portion is usually designated on the pack....ie, serves two etc.

Re: a question for you

1 portion is classed as 1 handful of an item, having 2 handfuls doesn't count as two!

Re: a question for you

If one handful counts as one portion how come two handfuls doesn't count as two portions? Whose hands are we using to measure it out? Yours may be bigger than mine!

Re: a question for you

Re: a question for you

The Healthy Heart Campaign reckons you should choose different colours of fruit and veg too - so not all green ones. Coleslaw in multi handfuls has to count for more than one portion because it's got more than one thing in it though surely?
