Question Auld Lang Syne....

Who sang this on New Years Eve? If so; Should old acquaintances be forgotten, And never brought to mind?

Is the song asking the question? Or telling us to forget the past for the new year?

Any thoughts welcomed...

Auld Lang Syne
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days o’ lang syne!

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear
For auld lang syne,
We’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne!
We twa hae run about the braes,
And pu’d the gowans fine,
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary foot
Sin’ auld lang syne.
We twa hae paidl’t in the burn
Frae morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
Sin’ auld lang syne.
And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere,
And gie’s a hand o’ thine,
And we’ll tak a right guid willie-waught
For auld lang syne!
And surely ye’ll be your pint’ stoup,
And surely I’ll be mine!
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet
For auld lang syne!

Re: Auld Lang Syne....

Good question Kes to which I've never given much thought before, probably because I've never seen all the words before and just sung along with the familiar bit like 99.9999999% of everybody else!

Thanks for posting the text, I think it says we shouldn't forget old friends even though we might be apart, and when we meet we'll have a drink and think of days gone by.

My sentiments exactly.

Anyway here's wishing you a Happy New Year...

It's about friendship & looking back remembering.

Re: Auld Lang Syne....

I think it's asking a question - Should old acquaintance be forgot? Fact is we forget some people easily others are always in our minds, some good some bad - we can't get rid of them.

As the song says -

If it is asking a question, perhaps the chorus is the answer.

Or if not the answer, the ideal.
