I must be getting old ... oh for the days when thirty bob would get you peed as a rat, get some fags, and fish and six for the way home.

Your not wrong there Eric, for thirty bob and they'd take you to hospital with alcohol poisoning. I can remember back in the early 70s going into our local (White Bull New Lane) and the landlord say the beer had gone up a penny, I just said it wouldn't be long before we wouldn't be able to get 10 pints for a pound

10 pints is a good start to the night Strange that there was a time in my life that an increase of a penny a pint was considered outrageous gouging

Re: Con club

I seem to remember drinking Scrumpy in the NAAFI at RAF Locking in 1961 at 11d a pint because it was 2d a pint cheaper than the bitter - Ushers, if my memory still serves

Well it was in those days Eric, now they think nothing of putting 5 or 6 pence on a pint which would have been over 20 old pence and the beers not half as good either

My step mum used to be the stewardess there, years back! When I was a teenager.
Started my first job there at the age of 13, bottling up and cleaning and stuff. (Not on the books of course, just earning a bit of pocket money).
Then at 16, started glass collecting, then progressed to behind the bar!

It's no wonder I work at Clayton Con, (My dad was steward there for 16/18 years until retirement almost 4 years ago)

I now have my own Personal License and do relief for Hazel (Clayton Con) if and when!

Accy Con was so much fun, and that ballroom... WOW!!! memories! xx
