Could You Do It?

just been announced that "Beckham" will stay in Milan until the end of the season, he is taking a 40% Pay Cut to do so. don't think fer a second that this decrease will affect his familys lifestyle. when i worked,i earned good money, but if that scenario had been put to me, i know fer fact it would have put us in a very difficult position. probably i could have survived, but things would have been very hard. i'm just wondering how many of you could actually even survive with a 40% decrease? knowing the crap wages many are on in this area,i doubt if many could.seems to me some are on "That Much" money its totally mad.

Re: Could You Do It?

Today's footballers are paid obscene amounts of money. I can remember having a conversation with Bryan Douglas (ex Rovers and England winger) about 5 years go, regarding today's players and the money they get. I actually said to Dougie that he'd been born 40 years to soon, he agreed and said he'd earned far more money since leaving the game than he ever did playing it

Re: Could You Do It?

I don't know why the LA Galaxy just don't cut their losses and let him go. If you remember the whole thing about him going to LA was to try and get more people in the U.S.A interested in soccer. Well clearly this has not worked. It did work from a celebrity point of view as the whole family is constantly in the news and I guess they got more A lister friends. So if a goal was to conquer America he achieved it but definatly not through soccer.

His poor wife.

They're obviously struggling to make ends meet as it is.

Goodness knows how malnourished she'll be after her husband's 40% pay cut.

Re: Could You Do It?

Since being 'put out to grass' 15 months ago ... my income has decreased by 66%. Yes, having to adjust quite a lot I would say.

My fault, never saved for retirement properly when I was earning really well, however, has gone on looking after my family to give them the good things in life and do not regret one penny of this. They are re-paying me ten fold by their ongoing success in life.

Is all relevant to the standard of living you have been used to in the past, so hard for me, but sure David Beckham has no worries .. unless he has lived up fully to his income that is ... well, we know there will still be plenty of money and assets in the pot.

Like Katex.....I am retired and have been for the last six years......my income has dropped by 50 percent......but I did save during my working life(for all the good it has done me, with interest rates at an all time low)......we manage but it would be nice to have just a little more.
(I can make ends meet, but I would like to be able to put a knot in the string to stop it from slipping )
