I thought it was southerners who had lunch at noon, and dinner sometime after teatime (7 - 8 pm), northerners I thought had dinner at noon, and tea at teatime (5 - 6 oclock).

me I have lunch at noon and Dinner in the evening ,
I think it's a colonial thing ... "tea" is a drink; something you sip on when you can't get a good cup of coffee, it aint a meal. Lunch is what you have around noon, and dinner in the evening.
