emergency housing - how does one qualify for it?

as the title says.

I am after some info on the above, basically my sister is in a relationship thats not good for her health and the kids for reasons I wont go into, now I have said she is more than welcome to stay at ours for a bit till she sorts herself out but obviously she would need a house of her own at some point - would she qualify for emergency housing as she would effectively be homless or what?
I am not looking to beat the system or anything like that before anyone thinks it, just looking to find out the ins and outs of it so I can speak to her about it..should it come to the situation where she does leave...

thanks for reading and I look forward to the replies.

Not sure about this but would think that if she did come to you she would in effect not be homeless. It would then be down to you to chuck her out I think or say in writing that they could only stay till such a date. There is the hostel on Burnley Road for abuse victims and then they are given priority for housing. I know that isn't what people want to do but if needs must to get yourself out a situation that is unacceptable. Hope you can help her get sorted.

I dont know what the reason is however if this abuse of any kind i would get the guy removed from the house as your sister is the one with the children the law would look on her side favourably on this matter.

dont know who dorothy? is at maundy grange and as for getting the guy removed from the house - its in both their names etc etc and she is happier to walk away and leave him the house than go through the hassles of having him removed - she has told me to keep out of removing him!

Dorothy is the lady at Maundy Grange in Town who assists and advises people in issues to do with the homeless and re-housing. It does not make a difference that the house is in joint names however i understand that she is happier to just walk away and cant be bothered with the hassle. Hope she gets sorted soon, as it is obviously affecting her and the children.

Your sis needs to get down to the Town Hall and ask for an appointment to see an advisor, she will get priority treatment if she is homeless, kids will help push her up the list, Town Hall is first step though. ( I wouldn't go the Maundy Grange route if you can possibly avoid it.)

Ps Eric is hunky dory!

its not the town hall, its the other one, near the library, they deal with that, if she goes in there someone should interview her but you do have to be homeless for emergency housing and they will probably ring the guy and see if she can stay there until she finds something (unless she can prove thats not an option)
