My Dad uses his steamer all the time, so I bought one 6 months ago and I still haven't used it.
Don't get me wrong, I do try to eat healthy stuff, porridge for breakfast, olive oil for cooking and salads, avoid fast food and gooey cakes etc, I just can't get enthusiastic about steamed food.

Re: Healthy eating
some stuff is lovely steamed. equally some is lovely deep fried
I Love fish poached in Milk but Julie probably couldn't think of anything more disgusting(She hates anything with hot milk )
veggies are usually nice steamed as they tend to keep their flavour better.
You do know you need some fat in your diet to get the essential fatty acids that are part of our make up. I stick to 'natural' fats rather than man made stuff so its olive oil, butter and actual animal fat when needed.

Re: Healthy eating
I am on my second steamer in 3 years, we do steam all veggies, and fish portions which we all like, we also use a deep fat fryer because some things only taste right deep fried in vegetable oil, anything else is done in the oven or grilled, so I suppose we half eat healthily.

Re: Healthy eating
Popped down to my local after my salad for 'a drink', which naturally meant 3 pints of the guest bitter and a double southern comfort and lemonade. I don't think I am taking this healthy eating thing very seriously at all.
I just had a ham and cheese sandwich and an activia yoghurt. Going to have a salad again for my dinner. I am doing this to lose weight but only because when you revise you tend to eat a lot of crap, and I have gained a stone in weight. Whilst I am still a reasonable weight, I do not feel particularly healthy, so thats why I think its time to sort it out. Plus I can't fit into my trousers for my summer placement, so I must lose a few inches!

Indeed they are, but I am not going to cut fat out of my diet completely, otherwise I will get ill, and what is the point of buying healthier food if I'm just going to be sickly.
I already had the cheese in my fridge, and yes it is high in fat, or so the red segment of the circle tells me. The coleslaw is the low fat type.

Re: Healthy eating
I used to like salad, but these days it gives me digestive problems, and I am hungry very soon after eating.
For those who want cheaper veggies...Lidl very often have lots of veggies on half price offer.
and as Entwisi says you do need some fat in your diet to absorb the fat soluble vitamins A D E & K.

Re: Healthy eating
If you suddenly cut fat out of your diet wont the body go into 'famine mode' and conserve the fat you already have in your body.. that also means that it will keep hold of any fat you do eat?

Re: Healthy eating
I have slipped badly with healthy eating this past year.
Previous to this i had lost 6 and a half stone and was feeling great but i have put 4 stone back on which isn' so great!
I have lost a few pounds recently though, eating better again and exercising again so fingers crossed!
I have to say though they don't make it easy to buy healthier food,Everything is so much more expensive than junk food,if the goverment is serious about the obesity crisis surely it should be the other way round?
