Need quick response on Travel!

How long does it take "the train" to go from Manchester to Heathrow/London? Do they have a fast train and a slower one. What times do they travel?

Thanks! I'm trying to get the airline tickets bout. Virgin Atlantic website is down, will not fly United again, so looking at British Airways. Trouble is the Sunday flight they have out of Heathrow is at 11 a.m. Oh, that's another thing what's the earliest the train runs down to London on a Sunday?

Brian

Re: Need quick response on Travel!

On average the train from Manchester to London takes about two hours. The train gets into London Euston, you'll then either have to get the tube to Paddington for the fast shuttle train to Heathrow, or the tube all the way to the airport. The first option will take about one hour to get from Euston to Heathrow, the second could take up to two more hours.

Hope this helps.

Re: Need quick response on Travel!

You can book tickets for the Heathrow Express online.

It's much quicker, about 15/20 minutes, than taking the tube all the way, which takes over an hour.

The hardest bit will be getting from Euston to Paddington. It's only about a mile and a half away, so if it was a quiet time of day you could take a cab. What I'd do is leave Euston station, walk to Euston Square underground station, which will take only five minutes, and then get an eastbound Circle Line train the three stops to Paddington, where you can then get the shuttle to the airport.

Re: Need quick response on Travel!

Thanks guys! Looks like I'll be able to get a flight out of LHR at closer 5 p.m. That'll give me plenty of time. And of course I will not have a hangover cause my Accy mates know I'm not a huge drinker anymore and would not take advantage of my excitement at seeing most of you eh?

Brian

Oh, any suggestions on British Airways (ignoring the dead bodies) or Virgin Atlantic? With my bad back can get BA premier economy for $1,100. But can get a regular guy seat on Virgin Atlantic for ~$800!

Re: Need quick response on Travel!

Much better to get the later flight, the first train wouldn't have got you there in time, plus you'll have more 'recovery time' to sober up.

Have flown Virgin Atlantic, and the seats are comfy and relatively roomy. If your back is really bad, I'd pay the extra for B.A. though.

Re: Need quick response on Travel!

Brian , unless London is place you definatly have to visit I would suggest checking out flights either direct into Manchester or connecting thru one of the European hubs , Paris/Amsterdam/Frankfurt, much easier than using that zoo at Heathrow
Also check and make sure you know which London Airport your airline is using since some airlines are now using Gatwick

Brain, why not fly from Manchester to Heathrow, connecting flight so no luggage to mess with at Heathrow. Only takes 45mins.

Re: Need quick response on Travel!

When I used to go to the States for work we often found it was cheaper to fly through Brussels or Dublin from Manchester than it was for a direct flight out of Manchester. More often than not we flew business class cheaper than we would had we booked cattle class on AA

Manchester Piccadilly services are half hourly. They consist of the faster services at 35 past the hour (taking just 2 hours, 11 minutes) which call just at Stoke-on-Trent and Stockport.

If you're thinking of using the train to get around while you're over here these passes are good value: http://www.railpass.com/new/passes/psBrit.htm
