Towns called Accrington.

I'm quite sure that ours is the only township in the world called Accrington. However, I was recently told that there was one in New Zealand, so I wrote off to the NZ Embassy in London to enquire. The reply was that no township could be found, but there is a farm/homestead in a place called Chorlton in the region called Banks Peninsula on South Island.

The house is available for holiday renting, so I've flashed an enquriy off to the owner asking why the house is so called. Watch this space.

Re: Towns called Accrington.

Many years ago I was told that there was a neighbourhood in Sydney, Australia that was called Accrington that had a reputation of being quite a rough district.

Thanks for this. I've learned it's not in Sydney either.

Re: Towns called Accrington.

Hi there,
Google Earth can't find any other town named Accrington, but what it did find were streets/courts etc. in the following towns:
El Paso Texas USA
Charlotte North Carolina USA
Corpus Christi Texas USA
Sacramento California USA
I contacted the "Visitors Information Centre" of all the above mentioned towns on where the name of Accrington originated, but sorry to say I only got an answer from Charlotte N.C. with a link to a local historian, who informed me in an e-mail "Sorry no idea"
If you go into Google Earth (Street View Modus) you can find/see the name of Accrington on the respected sign posts.

Cheers

Re: Towns called Accrington.

I appreciate the work you've put into this, Landhusweg. I have been given the name and address of a historian in New Zealand who may be able to help me learn why the farm I mentioned is called Accrington. Report follows

Re: Towns called Accrington.

Hi again gpick24,

Yes this is the picture, so what did I do wrong?

P.S. Already answered your reply in the forum topic "Feedback/Suggestions/Help".

Will however wait until you can reply to this answer i.e. what did I do wrong.

Re: Towns called Accrington.

I`m don`t know where you are going wrong but the address you are copying into the insert image is -
"http://www.accringtonweb.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/13774/title/accrington-rd-el-paso/cat/1004"

When it should be -
