I can just about ray, think they tarmacked Union road in the mid 50s covering the tramlines and the old cobbles, think there's some photos in one of Bob Dobson's books showing the tramlines, I'll dig it out later

Union Rd wasn't your ordinary cobbles - it was 'granite sets'.
They were dark grey and had a flat top surface.
They are still there under the tarmac because they were too rock hard to get up.

Don't remeber them up Union St but do remember going on the tram from Church to the West End to watch cricket, and I think a couple of times into Blackburn with Mum
