Ashton of Oswaldtwistle

I've learnt tonight that one of my ancestral grandparents from early 1800's was actually from Oswaldtwistle.

Out of curiosity is there anybody else who has an Ashton link from Oswaldtwistle going back so far ?

My mom was an Ashton. Her parents were Albert and Sarah Ashton ... I think that my grandad was from Oswaldtwistle .... I believe my mom mentioned it ... Never got to talk to my grandad much; he died when I was four.

Does that mean they'll have to stop picking on you for being a Dingle ?

1820's in Ossy we had Martins, Salts, Kershaws, Rushtons, Rostrons, Nuttalls, Tattersalls, and Ormerods.

No Ashtons.

We shunned the Ashtons in Ossy.

Hoping their ancestors would flee to Dingeland.

I've been doing a bit of checking this afternoon and I think I've had a bit of a reprieve, I'm not afflicted by having roots in Ossy, somebody has misread a previous census, it should be Osbaldeston

Re: Ashton of Oswaldtwistle

My wife's mother was an Ashton, from Church, her great grandfather Richard was from Oswaldtwistle and had a brother Albert, maybe the one who married Sarah. If you go to Ancestry.com you will find many cross references with others doing family trees
