Bannister family - Accrington and District 1840 -1900

Hello. New to this Forum but pleased to be a member. Is there anyone out there researching the Bannister surname. I would be pleased to have contact if there is. Best wishes. Elaine

Check the Lancashire |family History Society's website to see if any members are researching bannisters. It allows you to message them

I advise joining the society, even if for one year only to take advantage of a) a branch which meets in Acc monthly b) a library and help-room staff in Ossie c) an internet forum with members who want to help you d) getting your name and interests in the society's magazine, so putting you in touch with others looking for Bannisters

I will send you a private message

Re: Bannister family - Accrington and District 1840 -1900

At the back of my mind, something is telling me that I once met Mr & Mrs Bannister, who kept (5yrs ago?) the Boar's Head pub. His family had kept other pubs in the town. Are they still
in the pub trade ? I know the Boar's Head has shut

I've wakened the other computer up and as I thought the Bannisters are mainly locted in Altham and Snuffy.
The first Bannister is dated 16-Oct-1361 John Bannister in the Chetham Society Inquisitions.
The next one is 9-Apl-1413 Geoffery Bannister Vicar of Blackburn.
The Halmote Court Rolls record a Richard Bannister in Apl-1527.
The first one in the Parish Regs is 1-6-1606, baptism of Anna daughter of Nathanial Bannister.

I've had a re-think. The Boar's Head family were called Shackleton.

Thank you Bob and thank you to all the folk out there who have taken time to respond. I appreciate your help. Have followed up on Lancashire FHS and have posted to two others researching the Bannister surname. I will visit the cemetery in the spring/summer. The period of greatest interest in my research is 1850 to 1901. Best wishes. Elaine
