Re: Poppy Ban
This is absolutely outrageous.....who the hell is this oufit anyway? Do they have any retail outlets here in London? Tell me where....
Eric , if you're reading this, then you will know that the Poppy appeal originated from the Canadian John McCrae's poem: In Flanders fields, the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below... We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields... Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands, we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields... McCrae is buried in Wimereaux cemetary, outside Boulougne, a few graves down from a great uncle of mine (1st Irish Guards)...this is making me very, very, mad. |
Re: Poppy Ban
Although they have backed down I cannot understand why they would ban it in the first place.
For me the poppy is a sign of gratitude for all those immaterial of colour or creed that laid down their lives for others like me and you, in order that we may live a free and long existence without tyranny and fear from oppression. What I dislike about this is that the person who made this decision is probably a decendant of someone that was saved by one of those that gave their life in the great war. Wear your poppy with pride and support the British Legion |

I'm really po'd at this too ... One of my earliest memories is of my granddad Ashton coughing himself to death in '48, finally losing his last battle against the whiff of gas he got in '17. |

I know it's a little off topic, (but considering the poppy is a symbol for those who gave everything for British freedom and independence not too much) but what is the problem with putting it to a vote, a referendum, ... "it" being the whole EU thing. I sense there is enough support for this, so, which party will grow a pair and make it an election issue? |

Maybe I could send you a sawbuck so that you can see it yourself. There are also depicted poppies, the National War Memorial, and a Canadian veteran wearing the jacket and berret of the Royal Canadian Legion.

The only way we will ever return to this shop, is if whomever is responsible fer this ridiculous decision, is made to pay the price fer this insult to our fallen troops.

I see that Bodycare has outlets in Canada ... I most certainly will avoid them like the plague ... Oh, and the incident made the news on tv over here ... the buffoon who started this idiocy is going to make news world wide ... The intensity of the outrage is a good sign, and an indication that even though there are some insensitive idiots around, most still remember with pride and sorrow those who fell.

i heard that on the radio at teatime ..and couldnt believe it. A poppy is a tribute to all those who have fallen in times gone by and for those yet to fall. Have never since i was i kid missed wearing one .. spend the saturday before remembrance sunday watching the service at the royal albert hall .. have done since i was a kid .. a sign of respect |

the way I see it is that the management of this company have acted out of order.. but to boycott the firm may put working staff out of a job and they are not the ones who should suffer for big time bosses.. at the end the boss will move on with a big wedge but workers will get nowt.
