The weather around the world has gone mad

Hi everyone.
Well here I am in Australia experiencing 40 celcius plus temperatures and bush fires in 3 states, while you poor sods are up to the top of your wellies in snow and freezing to death.I am feeling very sorry for you all.Hope it moderates soon
I still think I prefer the heat to the cold, but 40 is around 10 degrees too much.However...I can always jump under a cold shower.

Regards Tal

its all our own fault for using lynx , hairspray and driving cars

we never learned from history when the dinosours caused teh last massive global change by driving their cars and using hairspray etc

funny isnt it how the last time it happened experts say it was a natural event and now its happening again its all our fault and petrol prices go up as punishment lol

And I can always put a few extra clothes on or sit by the fire and get warm. Know which I prefer - can't stand that feeling of always being sticky and trying to cool down.

BTW don't think anyone in Lancs has had a welly full of snow unless they're under about three feet tall and then they probably enjoyed it!

But thanks for thinking of us!

No, there have always been fluctuations in the weather...it is just that today the media have a field day and blow things out of proportion(well, it takes our minds off the threats of terrorism, the EU and other such like events), and we get the news from other parts of the world in real time. Rather than having to wait for the carrier pigeons to land.

ahhh but you cant use that as an excuse to tax things can you ;)

the world was thrown into panic by "global warming hahaha" and the best policey government could come up with was to seize an opportunity to tax the hell out of everything and anything we may need or enjoy

and what was done and is been done with all this extra money gained by these taxes.....

urined away basically

Has it gone mad?

Or is it just going through a depression?

After all, Even our well paid meteorologists admit they don't really understand it.

Maybe it's just trying to reach out to someone, somewhere, that will listen and tell it they understand what it's going through?

Perhaps the hot flushes you are experiencing are it's age? After all it is also known as 'Mother Nature', at least she's paying attention to you, we seem to be getting that cold shoulder, you know the one, icey glares, howls of derision but no explanation of what we've done wrong, not to worry, come spring we'll be back to permanent rainfall, even handing a tissue and saying there, there, won't cure it we'll get no change until we admit that it's all our fault and promise not to put it through global warming ever again.

However, will the weather really believe us?

I doubt it.
:(

If you are correct ... and I have no reason to doubt the width and depth of your research ... and the Earth is female, does that mean that we should end all attempts to understand it? Are we fated to be at the mercy of irrational "mood swings" in the weather? Perhaps a dozen roses and a box of candy to go along with the abject apologies and unconditional admission of guilt would help.

Had our first real snow here today... started falling around 3pm, not sticking, went to hosp in Lancaster, falling thick and fast, just starting to stick when we got there about 4pm. Came out 4.20, sticking in Lancaster, back in Morecambe 4.45 sticking but had turned to sleet falling. Sainsbury's car park a mass of slush, did some shopping, came out about 5.30, rain now falling, home 5.40, road and steps to house thick with slush. And that was it.

What’s even more sinister, and why I despise the BBC (does it show?), is that, despite being a clearly hilarious story, it won’t get a mention on any of the BBC so-called comedy shows on the radio.

The people around the world have gone mad
…. and you can get into trouble for calling the obviously mad mad.

If Greta Thunberg's minders/mentors/controllers/puppeteers are earnest in their beliefs then surely they should address their concerns towards the three major culprits....

China, India, Global Over Population

Changes to those may make a difference

Me forking out additional £1000s for a souped up dodgem car that might just take me to the shops and back or paying well over the odds for "renewable" energy ain't going to make a rat's fart towards climate change.
The reticence of the Thunberg camp to address the obvious problems leads one to believe they hold a different agenda altogether.

Re: The weather around the world has gone mad

How do you imagine China would deal with such demonstrations?

She is targeting the wrong people...and I do not for one moment think this girl has either researched or thought of these things herself.
She should be directing 'How Dare You' comments to her parents.
They are the ones who have robbed her of her childhood.
Her future is up to her.

The electric car thing is a fudge too, because unless someone comes up with a sure fire way to generate electric(other than burning fossil fuel)....then come the time when these vehicles are the 'norm' there will not be the capacity to boil the kettle for a cup of tea.

The other issue I have with these forms of transport is that the manufacture of batteries to power them is far from 'green'....but nobody ever mentions that.

These Eco warriors would have us go back to the dark ages....living in caves, eating uncooked berries and seeds(no fires allowed...they add to climate change).

On each of the protest marches I have seen, these young idealistic people are using iPhones, I bet most of them go on holiday, but yet they tell me( who was recycling before the word was thought of) that this climate change is MY fault.
After the marches they leave a heap of rubbish behind them for someone else to deal with....very Eco friendly.....bloody hypocrites

No need for batteries - just extend the overhead electrified mesh from the dodgems at Blackpool Pleasure Beach to cover the whole country. It's about as practical as many of the other so called solutions even if it would take up most of the world's copper supplies just to cover the Fylde Coast.

What riled me about the Thunberg thing was how despicable those who control her are. Criticism is not allowed because you are 'attacking a child' in spite of their parents stating she has mental health issues and in spite of most 16 year olds (who are old enough to legally procreate) not wishing to be called child....

I read that St. Greta of Thurnberg, the patron saint of idiocy, was specifically chosen by those who control her because she has Asbergers.
There was a essay competition in Sweden for school children about climate change and she came second. But maybe the winner wasn’t so telegenic or malleable, and StGreta’s parents are political activists, so she was selected to be the child prophet of doom, on the understanding that sceptics would be very reluctant to shout down a child with asbergers.

Btw, we’re in upstate NY this week. On Wednesday it was 84F degrees on the shores of Lake Ontario. On Thursday it was 45F. Today it’s 65F.

If this 'child' cannot stand the scrutiny and the criticism then she is clearly not mature enough to be in the arena that her parents have thrust her into.

On the video clip one commentator derides another for 'attacking a child'.
He fails to get the point that, no...it is not the child who is being attacked but her ludicrous point of view.
She is seeing the world through the very narrow prism of her limited life experience.

Who, at 16 did not think they knew everything there was to know?

It is only when we have lived a bit and seen what life is about that we realise how foolish we were.

I am sick of the virtue signalling pseudo-religion that climate change has become.

And this girl is really not the one who should bear the blame.
It is her activist parents who really should be called to account for putting this child under the spotlight.

When the bitch thatcher closed the mines it didn't just affect miners, many other trades were suddenly out of a job (without the bribes she paid to mining).
I found myself unemployed, Norman Tebbit said 'get on your bike', I foolishly did better, I got on a train and went south working for a millionaire, she was having a dinner party and told all present in most vicious terms that there was no need for unemployment benefits, if lazy people couldn't find work they could always be employed on farms picking potatoes, being foolish and believing that freedom of speech wouldn't result in further unemployment I pointed out that the massive majority of unemployed wanted to work and that if all of them could be transported to pick the spuds they would die of starvation because machines could do the job better.
She wasn't just horrified that one of her lower minions would dare speak out of turn, she dismissed me on the spot and within 24 hours was removed from the premises supplied by the job.
A difficult time, I'm just glad I was single at the time.

What I want to know is how all those folk got down to the metropolis.

I can't see much evidence that they walked(they had too much energy left for dancing in the streets)...perhaps they cycled....No, don't be silly...how many miles is from Grimsby(they would have had to set off sometime in August)

I bet all of them have mobile phones.....and if you look at the messes each of these protests have left, it is clear to see that their concern for the planet does not extend to disposing of their (hopefully) recyclable rubbish responsibly.

This lot are just virtue signalling loons who think nothing of stopping people from getting to work...ST Thomas's hospital is one of the places that has been inconvenienced by their actions.

The UK is one of the lowest producers of CO2.....if they want to make an impact on climate change, then they should set off in the general direction of China.
If they start walking now they might just get there by 2025 I just hope they will be prepared for rubber bullets, water cannons and tear gas.....Chinese riot squads don't pish about like our plods.

Cashy, they are just virtue signalling no counts who want to appear superior to those of us who have to work for a crust.

They want us to change our lifestyles so that they can continue to fly on their ski-ing holidays and drive their gas guzzling cars.

There was one eco warrior went off grid...took her family into the woods somewhere, only ate what they could catch and cooked on an open fire....I wondered if she had considered that her woodfire for cooking created carbon dioxide emissions.

The planet is emerging from an ice age so it is to be expected that the temperatures will rise.....also a better way to control climate change is to limit the number of people on the planet....to limit procreation.

Me and my family have been recycling and repurposing since before the word recycling was used.....in fact I still have a rag rug made by my Grandma...and she died in 1956!

exactly. clothes were called hand me downs and remember going with my mam th church jumble sales where i always got a toy to play with later. we were not a poor family by any stretch of the imagination but knew how to use stuff to its full value and time. we tuned lights off when a room was not in use, used the sunday joint to its full potential. young couple next door are into this save the planet stuff but have three waste bins whilst we who are sceptical of the subject only have a half full one. i give up sometimes i really do.

The situation this morning where these morons disrupted rush hour travel was appalling.

Those who glued themselves to carriages should be left there until the glue loses its grip....once they have spent 48 hours glued to a train carriage....without food, water or toilet facilities maybe it would bring them to their senses.

Yes, our family was poor too.
We did what was called 'make do and mend'....no food was ever wasted.
Even mouldy stuff had the mould scratched off.
All our clothes, toys (not that we had many of them) books, shoes etc came from jumble sales or from the fa,ilies whose children had grown out of them.
The only time we got anything new was at Easter, when we got a pair of sixpenny socks....it was considered unlucky to not have something new to wear at Easter.

Could this be the hidden agenda behind the Thunberg phenomenon ?

https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/..._with_swedish/

… the Swedish 'green' energy companies could well make a killing. Don't think they realise though that for every person she 'convinces' two others feel like collecting up all their plastic household waste and setting fire to it in the garden for spite.

I wonder how much greenhouse gas has been produced by the eruption of the volcano in New Zealand....and how was it the fault of humanity.

Also an interesting note is that Greta Thunberg cadged a lift to a climate change conference in Portugal from a yacht owner....but all the carbon emissions that she did not make were wiped out by the yacht owner flying across the Atlantic in order to get to the said yacht.

Many, many years ago when I was hitching around Europe I got a lift in Denmark from a slightly older Canadian guy. I was trying to get to Sweden, he’d just left there. He told me he’d never come across such a nation of depressives, so I accepted a lift in the opposite direction to Hamburg instead.
Much later, I worked for a Swedish company, met dozens of Swedes, and realised, with a few exceptions, he had a point.

St.Greta of Thunberg, the patron saint of idiocy as some have called her, might just be a child with Aspergers being groomed by big business with financial interests in so-called ‘green’ energy.

I had heard before, that this was a manipulation of this child by not just her parents(who must take a large part of the blame) but by big business.
There is a lot of money to be be made by companies who manufacture Eco friendly/climate saving articles....(Sweden is the beating heart of this industry) especially if governments can be seen to be climbing on board.
The other thing(and you may think I am paranoid here) is that a population that is fearful is easier to control....so there may be governmental complicity in this.

Margaret Pilkington 14-12-2019 13:09

If the government were really serious about renewable sources of energy that do not rely on fossil fuels then they would make grants available for every house to have photovoltaic panels fitted to generate power for every house.

There is a commitment to be carbon neutral by 2050, and for all petrol and diesel powered vehicles to be outlawed by 2035.
There are plans to ensure that gas boilers are also outlawed.
So what are we supposed to use to power our homes.
Imagine, everyone getting home, plugging in their electric cars, trying to have a shower, cooking a meal.....tell me where the power is going to come from?
The National Grid is in no way equipped to deliver for these needs.
And this is not the distant future we are talking about here....it is 15 years.

Thankfully scientists are working on coding a bacteria that eats carbon emissions....so all,is not lost.

Re the weather. Was a tad warm yesterday in my neck-of-the-woods in South Australia. Reached 47C. Cooler today. But it's summer in Australia so has to be expected. The heat comes and the heat goes. Irrespective of what people say about records having been broken, maybe they have but I can remember my other half years ago working out in the open on building sites with the temperature 118 F or thereabouts day after day. No knocking off because it was hot. Just strip to the waist and get on with it. 'You're in Australia, mate'.

We had no air conditioning in those days, didn't even have fans and anyway fans didn't work that well in the real heat, so often slept out-of-doors...with the TV on the front porch to watch during the evening. Wouldn't dare do that these days though because if we were still safe ourselves in the morning I'd guarantee the TV would have 'disappeared' in the night.

Re: The weather around the world has gone mad

We spent six weeks out there in the early eighties....and we experienced temperatures of 47 degrees.
The family we stayed with had an inground pool and it was like getting into a hot bath.
It was difficult to sleep, but we hit on the idea of freezing water in those large fruit juice bottles.....we had two of these in our bed....wrapped in plastic bags and a pillowcase.
The bottles were moved about the bed so that there was always somewhere cool.
The big problem was the heat meant snakes were a real worry.....they were frequently seen in the back garden...under the passion fruit bushes.

Re: The weather around the world has gone mad

There are many bush fires in Australia that have been started by idiotic actions(tossing cigarette butts from car windows.

But as the article points out very clearly....all wooded areas need to be managed and frequently they aren't.

I have spent a lot of time in Australia...there have been many years when temperatures have soared....and because rainfall was low....fire bans were put into place....the scientific evidence shows clearly that there have been other years with temperatures similar to the current situation.

Another issue is frequently power lines are close to trees....the branches grow and they touch the power lines and poof, up it all goes.

I feel very sorry for those who have lost everything....how do you come back from that?
My thoughts are with those people....many of those places in flames are not just dots on a map...they are places we have visited.

Margaret Pilkington 04-01-2020 08:42

Re: The weather around the world has gone mad

A relative of ours has a homestead in Oz.
This guy has lots of trees on his property which is very big.
He applied to cut down some trees to create a firebreak so that his propert which is over 200 years old...was built by early settlers could be made safer.
His application was turned down....and he was told that if he did cut down the trees he would be hit with fines that could exceed a hundred thousand dollars.
Needless to say that he did not make his firebreak.

Now every bush fire season he damps down his property with the water from his pool.
Recently, his well ran dry, so he can no longer do this because the pool is no longer full of water....so I would guess that he is a very worried man right now.
Especially as the current fires are about 25 miles away.

That sounds a long way, but in the right conditions the fire could be on their property in a very short time.

It is tragic that bureaucracy can dictate unsafe practices...and enforce them with fines.

Ryewolf90 04-01-2020 14:11

Re: The weather around the world has gone mad

There was an article on a website I read where a guy did just that and chopped down trees to create a firebreak and was fined 100,00 dollars - his house was the only one to survive the fires.

Re: The weather around the world has gone mad

Years ago it was possible to manage the trees on your property without the intervention of bureaucracy....that is no longer possible and the trees are not managed in the way they should be....or at least that is what my nieces husband tells me.

His property is at risk every spring and summer...this prevents him from selling it.

180 Australians have been arrested for setting fires maliciously since the start of this current bushfire season which has so far left 25 people dead and has destroyed countless properties and led to the death of millions of animals.

So this is a man made disaster, but not a climate change issue.

Cashy, there have always been cyclical changes in the climate.
Geological sampling proves this.
The current temperatures in Oz are nothing new....we were there 40 years ago and the Mercury hit 47 degrees on a number of days(this was in Melbourne).

Of course the dry weather means that the vegetation is tinder dry, and this predisposes to Wild fires, but the seasoned Aussies are all too aware of how to manage this.

What does have an effect is the government meddling in stopping owners from managing trees on their land.
I have to say that when my nieces husband told me of the punitive fines for managing his trees....I thought he was exaggerating, but the article posted by Exile earlier in this thread made me realise that it was all true...mea culpa.

(2 produce sufficient food to feed a growing population ?

Re: The weather around the world has gone mad

Those are the problems that need solving.

We are currently using wind generated power....one of the most ineffectual renewable energy sources.
On days like today where the winds are strong you would think 'great...lovely for making electricity'...but NO....these eyesores have to be turned off when the winds are too strong.

What about electric cars?
Can you image all the cars on the road being electrically powered?
Where is this power going to come from?
You get home from work. Plug in your car to charge the battery....and everyone else is doing the same....so the national grid is overwhelmed.

The batteries that power these electric cars....they do not last forever, so when the battery gets to the end of its life, what then?

What about the production of materials that go into making these batteries....are these eco friendly?

There are so many issues that need solving if you believe that the change in climate is purely down to the activity of humans.

Not much is said regarding population and that (if you believe this climate change stuff) has to be a very big factor.

The protests are being held in countries where moves are being made to reduce carbon emissions.
The UK produces less than 2% of emissions in the world.

This child should take her protests to China, India, the US and Australia.

This is an extract from one of the links on an earlier post #63 on this thread.

Greta is just an ordinary 16-year-old Swedish schoolgirl whose fiery visions have convinced the parliaments of Britain and Ireland to declare a “climate emergency”. Her parents, Svante Thunberg and Malena Ernman, an actor and opera singer respectively, are just an ordinary pair of parent-managers who want to save the planet. Query their motives and you risk being accused of “climate denial”, or of bullying a vulnerable child with Asperger’s syndrome.
However, the Greta phenomenon has also involved green lobbyists, Google Page Ranking hustlers, eco-academics and a think tank founded by a wealthy former minister in Sweden’s Social Democratic government with links to the country’s energy companies. These companies are preparing for the biggest bonanza of government contracts in history: the greening of the western economies. Greta, whether she and her parents know it or not, is the face of their political strategy

The climate activists are actually having an adverse effect on their aims. They make many of us consider setting up a counter position of Extinction Advancement i.e if this is what the future generations are going to be like then maybe extinction isn't such a bad thing. Encouraging people to burn more stuff and buy battered old diesels to drive round in (er… hang on - that sounds a bit like the "eco-friendly" new age travellers???). Anyhow, as long as we can afford the gas bill the heating will be turned up to a level we deem comfortable and the car stays, plane travel etc etc.

Margaret Pilkington 14-01-2020 20:24

Re: The weather around the world has gone mad

Yes Jimmy, you are right.

They keep telling us what the problems are....but they create problems.
They take over city centres which means that people who would use a bus need to use a taxi(far less eco friendly) they create animosity to their cause because they produce difficulties that would not normally be there....disruption of daily life by their antics.

Their energies would be better employed in trying to find ways around the problems we face(according to them)....and when these people are on a protest they still use mobile phones....cars to get to the venues where the protest is being held and in the case of Emma Thompson....a jet plane....but she planted trees to offset her carbon footprint, so that's alright then.

I am sure that we could have come up with vehicles that are not petrol driven.....but the oil producing countries put the block on that development.
I am sure that I read about a hydrogen driven vehicle....whose emissions are only water vapour....clean and without particulates.

As for renewable energy generation. If governments really wanted to invest in this, then every home would generate its own power from Photo-voltaic panels....and any extra would go to the national grid.....and no-one would need to be cold or pay ridiculous power bills.

So, from this lack of decisive action I figure that this climate change stuff is fabricated to make us fearful.
A fearful population is easier to control and manipulate.
