Subject: Safety Alert 128 Personal Safety Tips

Safety Alert 128
Safety Tips for Your Personal Safety
Like most safety alerts we put out, most are concerning on the job safety, home safety, seasonal safety, but here is one I thought would help you to think about your personal safety, that you may not consider:
Tip from an expert:
The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are in danger, and close enough to use it, use it!!

Being Robbed:
If you are ever approached, and asked for your wallet, and / or purse, DO NOT hand it over, TOSS IT far away from you. Chances are that the robber is more interested in your valuables, and will follow after the wallet or purse, which gives you time to run to a safe location, Call 911 or equivalent immediately.

I’m not picking on Women:
Women have a tendency to get into their vehicle after shopping, eating, working, or making a list, etc., Don’t Do This!! A predator may be watching you, and this is a perfect opportunity for him /her to get into the passenger side of the vehicle, and try to kidnap, or abduct you. As soon as you enter your vehicle, LOCK IT and LEAVE!!!

If You Get Into a Car, and discover someone in it Already:
You get into your vehicle and someone has gotten in and is hiding on the floor. Don’t drive off!! Repeat, Don’t drive off !! Per the National Association of Police Officers, the right thing to do is to gun the engine and speed into something close, wrecking the car, the air bag will deploy, saving you, bail out of the vehicle and run. It is better than having someone find you in a remote location, hurt or even worse.

Getting into your car in a parking lot:
Be aware of your surroundings and people close to you. Be Alert !! Look into your vehicle before getting into it, especially on the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. If you are parked next to a van--- most abductors use this type of vehicle to pull their victims into the vans with much ease and quickness. Enter your vehicle on the opposite side of the van, or wait for others to be close to you and your vehicle before entering. It is better to be paranoid, than abducted or much worse !!

Elevators:
Always take the elevator, instead of the stairs, even only a few flights !! This is the perfect place for someone to hide and a horrible place to be alone, especially at night.

Car Key Alarm:
Keep your car keys, with emergency alarm button in your hand when walking to your vehicle. It can serve as a deterrent to thieves, as it is loud and effective. Use it if you feel threatened.

Home Security System:
If you don’t have a home security system take your car keys with you to bed, Sounds funny huh?? Lay them on your night stand and if you hear a strange noise, use the alarm sound on your car button to sound the car alarm discouraging possible burglars or others. This sound is generally the same sound a home alarm system makes, and you already have it!!!

I know some of this is redundant, or possibly hard to imagine, but take note that each and every one of these tips are listed on the National Association of Police Officers website. For more information, visit the site at Your safety and well being is very important to your loved ones, and all of us here at RTI. [/B]

If You Get Into a Car, and discover someone in it Already:

you have most likely got into the wrong car or it is a taxi and he is supposed to be there

As for slamming the car in to a wall, what if you've got an old Ford Escort like I used to drive? No airbag and not even seat belts in the back. You'd end up with your face smashed in to the steering wheel with someone else's face smashed in to the back of your head !:D
