Is there ice in the air causing it? The air looks very clear.

Yes Gordon millions of ice crystals contained within high thin clouds. I am in Hertfordshire tonight and it's spectacular. Yes gpick that's Jupiter at 9 o clock shining as a bright star.
Been talking to my son back in Accy apparently not so clear but the phenomenon is set to last all night so maybe it will clear?

Gets more difficult to photograph as it gets closer to the moon.

I tried a few times but the ice halo wasn't nearly so defined here....but jupiter was very clear.
I would have taken a picture but my monopod is packed away somewhere(haven't a clue where) until all the work on the house is completed.....and my hand is not steady enough to get such a shot with the Lumix.

I will be watching out tonight to see if the conditions are the same....I have found my monopod.
It was in the back of the boot of the car.......but being in a black case it was hiding from me.

Useful websites here Margaret, not sure if the Halo will be as pronounced tonight?

It was the cloud last night which obscured the view...It kept drifting across my field of vision.
I will check tonight...especially now I have something that will stabilise the camera.

Re: Space Station

No halo on the moon here in Stevenage tonight but Jupiter is brighter and more prominent sitting above our satellite in the night sky.

Last time I looked there was a lot of cloud cover and nothing visible.

Taken with an old 5MP camera using a doorpost to steady it (and me after a couple of slugs of Tullamore Dew).

Re: Space Station

Think we might have bought it on Amazon, before I got religion and realised how evil they are. It cost £270 - so that shows you how long ago it was. I only used it because I've managed to break my 12MP camera that cost £45 18 months ago.

Weather permitting, we may be in for a treat next month, around 90% solar eclipse on 20th March.
