On the ITV News at 10pm last night was a shot of Deirdre and a 1970s(?) character with fair hair dressed in a boiler suit. I think he was of the time of Dennis Tanner. What was his name ?

I am not recognising either of these names.

Re: Deirdre Barlow

Ray Langton had dark hair so probably was Jerry Booth - that's me showing my age!
RIP Anne Kirkbride, who can forget the Free the Weatherfield One' campaign - classic tv, deep condolences to her family

Re: Deirdre Barlow

Think I'm right saying that Jerry Booth & Ray Langton worked with Len Fairclough in the builders yard & that Jerry was Minnie Caldwell's lodger - bit worried that I can remember stuff from years ago easier than what happened last week!

Although I don't recall the name, I feel sure that the character I enquired of was Jerry Booth. He seems to have disappeared from view He may turn up at the funeral, though I don't suppose Len Fairclough will. The programme has not attracted me since Ena Sharples left

Sadly not. The character was killed off in the programme after the actor playing him, Graham Haberfield, died suddenly in 1975.
