Broadway Newsagent

Been in Accy town centre a few times this week and noticed that the newsagent shop on Broadway is closed - anybody know if they have closed for good?

According to the Observer "The lease on the property has been forfeited"
I guess they haven't been paying their bills.

One of the most well stocked newsagents I've been in for magazines although the customer service left a lot to be desired! Was a very busy shop though so its a bit of a mystery.

Nothing mysterious I don't think, forfeiture of lease is a posh way of saying they haven't paid the rent and their landlord has had to take drastic action to get them out!

Were they connected?

I agree about the service in this shop, always got the feeling I was in the way and too much trouble to the staff when I went there. Heard a rumour today that the owner had left owing the landlord 'substantial' rent arrears.

Forfeitsure Of lease is exactly that, no rumour. The landlord for that row of shops is the council

So the landlord lives upstairs! How did he allow them to get into arrears?........oh sorry. I forgot.

It's the council!

Probably too busy chasing its 'Excellent' tag.......or Posting its entry into the Times 'Top 25 places to work' competition.
