Re: you wont hear this on sky
What happened to the policeman being present at Polling Stations?
There was no one asking who I had voted for at the Polling station I used. There has been no one door knocking for any party, we have had leaflets through the letterbox, but you cannot ask a leaflet any pertinent questions. It seems like those putting up for election can't be bothered in seeking out votes. This doesn't bode well for whoever does get elected does it? |
Re: you wont hear this on sky
My flyer says you don't need a polling card, just give your name and address.
I bet that system is abused in some sectors of Accrington. I passed a polling station on Blackburn road this afternoon. It looked like a terraced house and there were a few swathy looking dark skinned "gentlemen" stood guarding the door. I bet I know who wins in at that ward. |

I have just heard something I haven't heard in a long time . A car has just passed my house with loudhailers on top . The person in the car was asking us to vote for Mr Ayub , the Labour candidate for the Central Ward . But I live in Spring Hill Ward . Seems that these politicians don't know their way around Hyndburn . |
Re: you wont hear this on sky
None of the candidates for the general election have shown their faces either.
Usually the various councillors for the parties canvas for the local election and also promote the candidate for the general election too....But nothing. In years gone by, the polling stations were visited by members of the various party teams and if you had not been and cast a vote they would offer you a lift to the polling station to encourage you to vote for their candidate....this doesn't happen anymore now. |
Re: you wont hear this on sky
We had a visit from the Baxenden Conservative local candidate - but that is all. The Green Party went straight past - very surprised that we didn't get a visit from any Labour hopeful:rolleyes:

Re: you wont hear this on sky
True, but if UKIP had not got all those votes......
On the bright side, at lease Cmon will have another 5 years where he can copy and paste about the government, after all Ed could do no wrong. |

Re: you wont hear this on sky
21.3% defiantly give a toss about the EU as they voted for a party that wants independence
and thats not including them that voted for tory who say they will deliver a referendum seems to me this figure of %95 not giving a toss about the EU was pulled out of somewhere rather smelly than out of fresh air |

Re: you wont hear this on sky
It seems to me they will NEVER learn, 2 of those who seek to lead the party, think they should be reaching out to business to regain popularity!!! well how about this fer a novel idea? They should be trying to reach the MAJORITY of the british public who can't be arsed to vote, This to me is the answer to why Labour are knackered, NOT business who will always swing wi whatever suits the pocket best, which is usually Tory any way. Any government to be elected here these days are elected by a MINORITY of the british public, they should ask themselves why thats the case. But they won't, too thick to see it.

Re: you wont hear this on sky
The major concerns with electing a Labour government is that they can't be trusted to handle the economy in a responsible way.
They cannot see that you have to earn the money before you can spend it....you cannot have what can't be paid for......well you can(but at a huge cost in the future - didn't Labour get Private companies to build hospitals so that the said private companies could fleece the NHS.....you would think that would be a Tory strategy)....the PFI is evidence of that and the reason why many trusts are in financial difficulties right now. Labour did not listen to the concerns of the grass roots.....but went ahead and allowed uncontrolled immigration.......this was to rub the rights nose in it......a cynical ploy to increase their voting base too. Labour blames the financial crisis on the global economy, rather than seeing that it spent money that wasn't there to spend. Gordon Brown knew about the banking situation and did absolutely nothing about it. all these things have eroded the trust of the electorate....plus the fact that they refused to let the people have a say on the EU, when it was clear that the creeping insidious effects of their policies was damaging the fabric of the UK(mainly because we slavishly follow the rules to the letter whereas France and other countries pick and choose which laws they will abide by...and nothing happens to them). I really don't think it matters who takes over the leadership of the Labour party......there isn't a strong leader to be found. |
Re: you wont hear this on sky
Yer on same wavelength as me Margaret, I reckon whilst the minority of public are voting these days, then its likely only a Tory Government is likely to be elected? Labour to me seem to thick to see it sadly. The saddos just try to sound tory n the public can see right through it.

Re: you wont hear this on sky
Labour said a lot about what they'd do for the poorest and how they'd tax the richest.
They didn't say a lot about what they'd do for all those in-between. There aren't that many very rich and not as many very poor as there used to be(not many of us live in little terraced houses with cold water and outside tippler now). So I think many of the 'in-betweeners' (who are now the majority) realised that as there aren't that many very rich, the 'in-betweeners'(or their children) would be the ones having to pay for Labours policies. Labour didn't pay attention to the current make-up of UK society and didn't tailor their policies to appeal to it- they paid the price. Their policies were 50 to 70 years behind the times. The 'in betweeners' wanted to see they had a future they could work for, Labour didn't offer it to them. Mind you Ed and the SNP didn't help. |
