I drove past earlier and saw a name on the place.
Because of traffic and kids about I didn't get a proper look but I think it was Brickyard or brick something.

An article in the Lancashire Telegraph started out calling it The Bricklayers.....but further into the article they call it The Brickworks.....apologies Frank.....I only read the first couple of lines of the story.....not far enough to read the real name.

It's more food place than traditional pub so it will do well

This is NOT a pub!

Pubs are where you go for a game of darts, pool or dominoes, put the world to rights with the lads or landlord and flirt with the barmaid. Somewhere to socialise, with regulars, locals and the occasional drop in.

A place where you pray to God that the pub bore doesn’t stand next to you while you are winding down after a day’s graft.

This is a glorified McDonalds with alcohol, selling weighed and measured pre-prepared meals, from the same standardised menu as other similar outlets run by the same company.

These places can sell at 2 for 1..cos it’s crud! The same leathery gammon, veiny steak, tasteless scampi and overcooked lasagne whichever chain you go to.

Don’t get me wrong, there are some fine pubs selling good food, I frequent one or two of them from time to time, but these damn fast food restaurants masquerading as pubs.. meh!

This place will be boarded up in 2 years

I went past it the other day. It has got all the signage on .

Re: New pub opening .

Guinness, I totally agree. I can just imagine the place full of children running around with the mothers slowly getting tanked up spending their benefits. The doorway will be blocked by prams, or buggies as I think they are now called.
That's my observations from other similar establishments I've walked away from
I suppose I'm old fashioned but I prefer the old time pubs where children aren't welcome.
I suppose that's why they close.

Well, this ain't off topic 'cause the thread title doesn't mention where the pub has to be;) ... there's a new pub/brewery in K-town:

Home | Stone City Ales

Some interesting brews for those into sampling beer ... and who in his right mind isn't.:D ... Maybe, come fall, it will be hijacked by students; after all, when you get 25,000 young folks coming to Queen's, St. Lawrence, and RMC it makes quite an impact on a small city. Decent place, though it seems a little pricey for somone who used to get a pint for 1s/10d.

Stone City Ales- now there's a name which says it as it is! Looks and reads like my sort of pub.
I noticed the strengths- even 'The 12 Star Session Ale' is 4.8%, 'a lower ABV'??
Gotta be a MAN to drink in Canada.
Now 'The Brickworks'- there's a name with no pretensions to grandeur. Puts you off before you go in.

The description by Guiness of fast food outlets with alcohol attached is undeniably accurate but they are popular so there's the rub. Same problem in Rammy I suppose but the one place operating like that does have locals in it and a semblance of the old days. Otherwise it's an empty during the week and three day binge story at the weekend. in all the "pubs". The problem is that enough people like it and the rest stay at home. With the exception of us foreigners ie myself and the guys in Germany and Canada [I've been to Ontario based in Kitchener] everyone else lives in Accy [I assume]. Are there any of the old style establishments that can be recommended and what are the places that meet the requirement [despite serving food] that Guiness alludes to. This could be usefull info the next time I'm in the area.
