Gyron Freres
Hi - I’ve searched the internet for Gyron Freres (Velvet Weavers) and can’t find anything out. It was at the bottom Ormerod St, did it have a mill name?

Re: Gyron Freres
I once had a temporary job at Giron Freres, sweeping up in their weaving mill, when I was a student. I think it was in Victoria St, off Ormerod St, although someone else on here will probably have a better memory than me.
If this link works, it implies it was called Lodge Mill. https://www.pastscape.org.uk/hob.asp...=6188&recfc=0# |
Re: Gyron Freres
It was definitely called Lodge Mill.
It was on Victoria Street and faced Major street. My recollection is that they wove velvet there. The boiler man there was a good friend of my Grandad and they used to frequent to Woodnook pub. |

Re: Gyron Freres
Margaret is right. The factory was on Victoria Street (Factory Bottom).
My late cousin’s husband Ronnie Taylforth worked there for many years right up until retirement. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2008. Cheers |
