And why not? They can't have it all their own way all of the time. Did you read the Telegraph? The owners of a cafe in Darwen are not allowing non-smokers to use the seats outside which were put there for the social outcasts, now when the sun comes out they want to sit in the midst of all that smoke thus running the risk of passive smoking. Talk about have your cake and eat it

Totally agree, barstewards, they've forced us out onto the streets and now they wanna sit with us cos there's no atmosphere in the pubs, make yer feckin minds up,hopefully fat boy Brown will see sense and do away with the ban on smoking,he's gonna lose a lot of revenue cos of it,I've not stepped foot in a pub since I was stopped from smoking in one,I think they should put disclaimers on pub doors ' this is a smoking pub' f*ck off if ya don't like ciggy smoke,go to a pub that is non smoking, plenty of em,leave us smokers alone, rant over

Some of us approve of the smoking ban, I really like not smelling like an old ash tray when I get home.

I appreciate that tobacco smoke permeates fabrics and is unpleasant for non smokers, but consider the alternative - the pubs will close one by one without the patronage of smokers, because their profit margins are too tight to wait for the time when the smokers have died off (albeit prematurely) and there is a whole new generation who want to use pubs and who dont smoke. By that time there wont be a pub to go to to get smelly in.

I'll see if I can find more.
There's this list for pubs in Oswaldtwistle from the History & Heritage forum:

George Clarkson...the owner lived on Higher Antley Street across from my Gran...his second wife was a Sister at Accy Vic......all totally irrelevant I know, but maybe of interest to someone out there.

The lady that fell down the cellar was called Margaret Fielding and not the landlord, she left 2 kids aged 3 and 5 and was related to the Fieldings who had the Black Horse
