Re: Afghanistan

Altho' a lot of folks remain unaware of it, Canadian troops fought in Afghanistan until the end of 2011 ... the pull out was according to a decision made by our parliament when we went in there. We left after 160 Canadians lost their lives, and billions of our dollars went down the flush. Nobody here regrets the decision. And there is no way that parliament would have voted for an extension. We are not a major military player, altho' our combat forces are top notch, and we played our part ... unlike the nazis and the frogs.

Even after we stayed in "an advisory capacity", we still lost people. It's time to get out of that hole and let the Afghanis deal with their own problems. We might not like how they do things over there; but it's their country and their "culture".

Well aware of it Eric & they had some pretty good snipers out there, Rob Furlong comes to mind as the best long distance confirmed kill. Until November 2009 when his record was beaten by a British trooper, Craig Harrison (Blues & Royals .... Cavalry).

How it ended up we are allies with them both is beyond me but goven a choice between the two i would say India is the better of the two because if anything at least they didnt knowingly hide and support binladen nor turn a blind eye to alquida training camps
Because the British Empire divided India into India and Pakistan and caused a lot of the problems between the 2 countries in 1947 I think it was

Not quite right, Neil.
The British wanted to leave India as one state. However the Hindus and Muslims were very hostile to each other and insisted on a split. Millions of people moved from one country to the other, depending on their religion and up to a million died in fighting or massacres. Not what we wanted or intended at all!

As for Afghanistan- do we never learn anything from history?

Re: Afghanistan

From what I understand the migration happened after the splitting of India into India and Pakistan

Of course there were 2 Pakistans then, West and East Pakistan which eventually split away and became Bangladesh.
