Absolutely ridiculous the politicians are just trying to control everything, it makes no sense at all and would be impossible to police.

Re: Ban on Photos in Public

What an absolutely ridiculous idea. I tried the link but it was unavailable. I haven't actually seen the news story. Is this perhaps an exaggeration by the press or something which has been misquoted and taken out of context and then reported? I can't believe even our government can be so stupid as to try to make this law. Does this also go for photographing scenery?

Re: Ban on Photos in Public

I've been looking into this in a little more detail and at present it appears that there are no actual proposals to make this law - just suggestions and ideas. It needs nipping in the bud before it gets any further.

THIS is a link to the current situation regarding photographer's rights in this country.

Re: Ban on Photos in Public

It's not law. It's not even a proposed law yet as far as I can gather - it's some suggestions for a proposed law, so you should be OK in October. It's not going to gain the government any extra revenue so I can't see it being fast tracked.

I was thinking about this - you know how they've got those 'no cameras' signs in some places like the Tower of London and Accy Arndale? If you do the tour of Lancaster Castle they tell you that you must not take photos inside the Shire Hall because it is till a working court (Can't quite see the logic of that one when there isn't actually a court in sesion.) but then you go into the gifte shoppe and there are postcards with pics of the Shire Hall - sort of defeats the logic doesn't it?

Re: Ban on Photos in Public

Willow, did you read tha PDF that you posted the link to (I posted the same link some time ago in another thread btw! ) Basically when on Private property they can restrict you in any way they want. If that is to make you 'buy' an official piccy then so be it.

The other thing to be wary of is that the link relates to teh law as at August 2004. Some time ago in this day and age so i wouldn't take it as total gospel without checking if there are any new developments or laws or changes to existing legislation e.g. data protection act

Re: Ban on Photos in Public

Unless a new law, which as far as I'm aware hasn't yet been formulated let alone proposed, is passed then no matter how old the existing law is, it still stands.
