Carol Singing ....

... no thanks ... according to a card a partnership has put out from lancashire police, neighbourhood watch and the local council in chorley and south ribble.

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Lancashire | Carol singers told 'not welcome'

Speaking on behalf of the body, Ch Insp Richard Robertshaw, from Lancashire Police, said: "Singing Christmas carols is a wonderful tradition which we encourage, as long as children are considerate.

"Similar cards were first used two years ago for Halloween, and they have been very effective. The scheme has been extended, and I hope carol singers will be as co-operative and understanding as the trick-or-treaters have been."

but a vicar says

Father Timothy Lipscomb, parish priest for Preston's Minster, was not impressed by the move.
He said: "I suppose we have come to the stage these days where people are becoming solitary and isolated.
"You don't get this great coming together of the street, people don't know their neighbours.
"I think if people want to come out from their churches and go carol singing, it is polite and and human to welcome them at the front door."

So what do you think ... me i think if people dont want to answer their door to carol singers .. especially if its a group of teenagers who are there on their own no adults with them and possibly looking for booze money .. with no ties to the local church ... then its a good idea.

Storm in a tea cup.

This year I had two Halloween callers, no penny for the guy callers, and probably will get no carol singers.

Kids nowadays cant be bothered going out and earning a few quid on a wet/cold night, they have better things to do with the latest versions of Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and World of Warcraft.

Carol singers are only one shade paler than Jehovah's witnesses -both are 'pushing religion'

I don't think anything to do with Christmas today could be classified as "religious". One nice thing about the Canadian climate is that it discourages door-to-door carolling ....

As an aside, a couple of young JWs came by last year while I was shovelling out after a blizzard .... one of them, a nice young guy, grabbed the spare snow shovel and helped me out ... they left a copy of the "Watch Tower", and took off up the street. Nice kids. And who knows, they may be right in their beliefs. I know that you are often castigated for some of your views and beliefs ... I don't go along with most of them; but I do accord you the courtesy of allowing that you just may be right. If I don't get around to it later, have a Merry Christmas, hon.

Re: Carol Singing ....

lol if a kid said they were going carol singing these days they would get their teeth kicked in for doing it or mugged after doing it for their money they raised

penny for the guy - well after banning folk from having bomfires teh old tradition of many back alleys alight with neighbours gathering round fires isnt going to be around much longer so no point collecting for a guy you cant burn , i guess government dosnt like us celibrating what was so near a great acheivement by guy fawks.

trick or treat - dont mind little kids acomponied by parents dong teh halloween trick or treat thing but these days its usually older kids whos idea of a trick is putting a screwdriver down your car
