I watched the scenes this morning and it was heartbreaking.
My thoughts go out to the family of the policeman. The only comfort they can draw is that this well respected man died trying to ensure that others in his community were safe.

Re: Floods in Cumbria ..

Just read on CBC website that the body is confirmed to be that of the policeman ... seems like similar things are happening in Ireland.

Been to Cockermouth many times, and was shocking to see that main street literally become a river! Makes you feel lucky to live in Accy at times like this, at least we never see those extremes!

Re: Floods in Cumbria ..

I am about five miles up the coast from Maryport. Cockermouth is where we do our shopping, Sainsbury and Aldi, both under water yesterday.
No sign yet of the forecast rain, overcast with one or two angry clouds overhead at the moment.
Tide coming in but appears calm. Can see Dumfries and Annan so no rain there yet.

Condolances to the family of Bill Barker, the Policeman lost in the line of duty.
That has come as a great shock to the people up here.
Will keep you posted.

Flooding seems to be the "in" natural disaster. On Vancouver Island the Cowichan and Koksilah rivers overflowed. No deaths or injuries tho'; but many have been evacuated ... maybe the planet is trying to tell us something.
