As of 2001 the population of Hyndburn was 81,500. Given that an estimated 10% of the population are gay/lesbian/bi, that makes 8,150 in the borough.

You'll need a big bike.

Better make that 8,151 because I hadn't moved back in 2001.

I was thinking on my way home from the Temple just now - maybe that's why Gayle's offer of help for the Gay Pride march was rejected - maybe he just wanted to be thought of as the only gay in the village.

Ah.. but that is 10% of the whole population..I don't think you can count people under the age of .. lets say 9yrs... I mean Elton John didn't know he was gay till in he's 30's!

..but from that chain of thought you could say that the other 90% of the under nines don't know they are hetretosexual, which is rubbish.

like I say .. you can't count people under a certain age.. I can't remember the age I thought.. "hey I'm hetrosexual".. so the 10% is rubbish..maybe more maybe less.

I'm not getting into an argument with you. I really don't care all that much. The first, somewhat flawed, figure from Kinsey's studies in the '50's put the figure at 10%, most studies today are more inclined to believe it's nearer 5%. Either way, one in ten, or one in twenty, it's still a fair few of the population of Hyndburn.

By the way, I knew I was 'special' from the age of six.

how do they conduct these surveys and do they check every closet in teh uk to ensure all those that have not yet come out are counted ?

Apparently this man says there has been a lot of support for this idea. Which wasn't the impression he gave Gayle, when she kindly offered to help secure funding, as posted earlier.

I read that too. When I was in his shop he was saying that there had been 15 homophobic attacks against his shop and him in the last few weeks. I wonder if he's considered that it's because he's not a very nice person and not actually because he's gay!
