They also share the imagery with maps.google.com - If I need a quick reference I use the browser but if I'm looking to waste a bit of time I don't mind the long startup time for the Google Earth app.

Some other cool things you can find on google earth or maps.google.com are:
  1. 51.683153,5.775261
  2. 38.225194,-112.298642
  3. 33.509444,-84.440742
  4. 61.299542,-149.623661
  5. 27.380375,33.632142
  6. 45.703728,21.300836
  7. 48.825203,2.198306
  8. 50.955761,0.954067
  9. -19.949078,-69.633850
  10. 33.225647,-111.595183
  11. 44.244273,7.769737
  12. 37.563817,-116.850878
  13. 45.123611,-123.113611
On the subject of SatNav - I was going to a wedding reception at Scaitcliffe Hall, starting at Fence and put the postcode in. I ended up the wrong side of the hill on a dirt track that would have destroyed any lesser car...

If you really want to be freaked out, JamButty, check out this map.

On Google Earth you can see our caravan on the farm where we used to stay near Carnforth.

If you had included the degrees in the coordinates you will have got a different result.
You can't get it without degrees and the result is still the same
2 deg 27'23.03 x 53 deg 42'12.02, and the litle hand is slap bang on the chimney stack.
When I zoom in to the word Holden Fold, the blue car is at
53 deg 42'12.67 x 2 deg 27'30.01
Retlaw.

Wow! Wow! And wow again. Thanks! If that shot had been taken whilst I was walking down the path to my car you would be able to see me.

How long before these images are available in real time?

When I zoom in to the word Holden Fold, the blue car is at
53 deg 42'12.67 x 2 deg 27'30.01
Retlaw.
The coordinates that I quoted:
2° 27’23.03” W to 2° 27’23.47” W and 53° 42’12.02” N to 53° 42’12.53” N.
are at the extremities of my flat grounds and as it is in a semi detached building the chimney stack is one extremity.

The centre of my car is at 53° 42’12.83” N and 2° 27’23.12” W

With a little hand to position it is difficult to ensure that the centre of the hand is on the centre of the car so there will be variations in your figures and mine. A one pixel movement could be the difference of just one hundredth of a second in the coordinates.

But to all intents and purposes we are both right and we are both wrong.

The real question now is will this forum accept the symbol for degrees? Yahoo! Yes it does.

So my car is 53 degrees, 42 minutes and 12.83 seconds North and 2 degrees, 27 minutes and 23.12 seconds west.

Re: Google Earth.

The myths and legends of the civilisation of Atlantis date it to several thousand years before the Egyptian civilation emerged.
Google Earth is revealing things never before noticed, (and not all of them have been blanked out/censored by photoshopping)

I had to look for myself - found it by typing in
31 14'01.78"N 24 20'46.00"W
then had to zoom out because it is the size of Wales!

Re: Google Earth.

Another mystery location
Type in destination.... 66 36'11.45"S 99 43'11.84"E
and you find what looks like a man made entrance to an underground area in the Antarctic.
Now this may be a logical thing to find until you begin to websearch
....Operation Highjump 1947
....Admiral Byrd's secret diaries
This looks like a BIG topic with a weeks worth of webbrowsing

Found - an ancient civilisation from from 160,000 to 200,000 BCE! long before the pyramids
Amazing Metropolis Discovered in Africa is 200,000 years old!
a link well worth a visit

"To see the number and scope of these ruins, I suggest that you use google-earth and start with the following coordinates:

Carolina -- 25 55' 53.28" S / 30 16' 13.13" E
Badplaas -- 25 47' 33.45" S / 30 40' 38.76" E
Waterval -- 25 38' 07.82" S / 30 21' 18.79" E
Machadodorp -- 25 39' 22.42" S / 30 17' 03.25" E

Then perform a low flying search inside the area formed by this rectangle. Simply Amazing!"

We never got a potcard, did we? Mind you, if the piccy's would have been of some camel dung heaps - as Margaret has referenced, above - then I don't think we would have been particularly impressed, do you?

It is clear to me that you haven't read the link or you would not be making such remarks - anyone who has, will know where the camel dung is coming from(Wapping)
