That’s what I’ve tried to do – make a haven for wild life. Fortunately I have a Zulu knopkerry, which is supposed to keep marauding elephants away and prevent them from trampling the foliage. It must work because I have never seen an elephant cross my garden.

With the wet weather there haven’t been many butterflies around but on dry, warm days the rabble of butterflies or if you like the swarm of butterflies all come rolling in. Well just a handful actually. I don’t know the names of any except the cabbage white and the red admiral. I did see two brownish coloured ones in what I assumed was a courting ritual as they flew around each other in a sort of aerial chase.

I’ve had loads of what look like very small hornets, barely half an inch long.

Ah - I think our cat's doing a very good job there. Not an elephant in sight in Lymm either.

Just a thought but aren't small hornets just - wasps?

No, I don’t think so. Wasps and hornets are two different species – I think.

Where is David Bellamy when you need him, or that Kate what’s her name or Bill Oddie?

Yee! Ha!

I’ve got a pure white one with more to come off that particular plant.

I’ve staked it and marked it so that when it goes to seed I can harvest them for next year.
