In 1995 I won £5000 on the Civil Service Lottery. My husband had set up in business, after being made redundant, and some of it went towards paying his VAT. The rest went on a holiday and a new front door!
If I won £1000 today it would go towards the new bathroom that's scheduled for 27/10, the new(ish) car I want before Christmas or the cost of painting/decorating most of the house since arthritis has prevented me from DIYing like I used to. I used to think £1000 was a fortune. These days, it's small change.
