Little Windows In Envelopes

I've been having a shredding & white sack day today, old bills and statements being removed ready for more of the same to replace them this year.
One thought came to me, the Council don't want envelopes with windows in them amongst the re-cycling.
May I humbly suggest then, that the Council set an example by no longer using these envelopes themselves?

The majority of envelopes I can't re-cycle come from that rich source of bumph.

I just waste my time and pull out the plastic part, or throw it in anyway if they don't want it they can take it out! Simples

Re: Little Windows In Envelopes

I have just read the council's recycling advice here -
http://www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/downloa..._Recycling.pdf

It says 'plastic windows' of envelopes aren't acceptable for recycling.

I notice that most window envelopes have a window that seems more like tracing paper than plastic - so I presume that those are recyclable.

I am fast becoming quite an expert on envelope windows and can tell you that without a shadow of a doubt, the figure for PLASTIC windows from HBC isn't a modest figure such as, 95%, it is a 100% usage level.

Re: Little Windows In Envelopes

You could always move over here, Less... Lancaster City Council say it's OK to put window envelopes in the recycling. Or you could pack yours up and send them to me...

Margaret, I wouldn't be too sure - plastic can masquerade as all sorts of things these days and even those that look like tracing paper could have some plastic content. The only way to be sure would be to contact the envelope manufacturers and I think HBC should be a bit more specific too.

Thanks for the offer, however I wouldn't want to upset your better half.
I'm halfway through the pile, my shredder has overheated and needs a rest.
The amusing thing about all the envelopes with windows, is that on the back of them these caring companies either claim these envelopes are re-cyclable, or begging me to re-cycle for the sake of the planet.
Are they all wrong? Is it only HBC that is correct by telling us not to re-cycle these envelopes?

I tear the plastic windows out and recycle the envelope(usually with a shopping list on the back)

Oh the irony, just noticed which of my waste paper the shredder packed in on.
It was a leaflet from HBC asking me to recycle more in their cash back challenge!

Do you think for one moment that if they have pondered the thought of DNA testing dogs they would hesitate to use other CSI techniques to catch an errent plastic window recycler?
