Magna Carta

Today is the 800th Anniversary of Magna Carta. It reminded me of learning the poem by Hugh Chesterton which begins ' John was a tyrant, John was a tartar, John put his name to the Great Big Charter, and all the barons from Thames to Tweed, followed the road to Runnymead.' I remember we had to learn it when I was at Peel Park and was reciting to out loud to mum but couldn't understand why she started laughing. I thought I had got it right. The trouble was I had said ' And all the barons from Thames to Tweed, followed the road to Bramley Mead.' Good job she corrected me or I would have been in lumber with Mrs Becker !!!!!

Re: Magna Carta

Mrs Becker could have shown King John just how tartarish a tartar needed to be.

Re: Magna Carta

Yes, she scared the life out of me.
I was in a perpetual state of fear when she was teaching us...It is no surprise that I didn't learn much from her.

Re: Magna Carta

I was in her class twice unfortunately although I have to say the second time was not as bad. The first time I would be 7yrs old and I used to be physically sick every morning . Think I was 9yrs the second time. Those glasses were enough to scare anyone and her perfume was over powering too.
