PayPal Email Scam

Just for info.

For the last few days I've been receiving 1 or 2 emails daily purporting to be from PayPal. I get very little real spam so this is unusual. I don't know if it's just me or if others have been receiving them as well.

They look very official, none of the usual spelling mistakes and are using exact copies of genuine PayPal emails.

They have informed me of items I've purchased which I haven't and my account being suspended. They always have a log in button to click.

What normally happens is if you click the button you're taken to a genuine looking page, you enter your username and password and it takes you to the genuine PayPal page. You assume you entered it wrong and try again and it works because you're now on the real PayPal page.

What actually happened is that you just gave your username and password to the scammers who redirected you to the real PayPal page so you didn't realise it was all a con.

Please never log into PayPal from a link in an email or online. Always type the paypal address into your web browser so you know you are on the genuine page.

Like Cashy, I was getting stuff like this in the summer. I also do not use links like this to activate my account.
I am pretty sure that paypal use your user name of the e-mail is genuine.
It is always good to be reminded that the scammers are out there looking for the unwary.

I just consign mine to the Spam file. When you reply it is likely to encourage more of that kind of stuff as you are confirming it is a 'live' e-mail address.

I don't think so Margaret, they already know its a live address, they reap them off the internet from all the sites you've ever been on, and with the language I use, some of it would make a Navvy blush. I would like to see their faces when they open their emails, and read wot I have wrote as Little Ern used to say

I don't think they read your replies.
And they might think your e-mail is live but if you do not respond then they can't be sure. Lots of people have ghost e-mail addresses that are there to attract the rubbish. My spam filter is very good and very few of these get through now.
The odd one that slips through goes onto my blacklist and will forever be consigned to the spam file.

Never reply to them, that way they know you read them so will continue to target you. Just click junk if your email system has it. I use Microsoft Outlook online account and when you click junk you are helping them stop junk email to others

Re: PayPal Email Scam

Perhaps you need to change your spam filter. Very few get through to me now. I used to deal with ten or more every day, now if I get one a month through to my inbox I consider myself unlucky.
