I think hes talking about this BBC News - Firefighters to join one-day public sector strike

but I had a nosy on Hyndburn councils website and it didn't have anything on about it so don't know if it will affect the bins ...

once a fortnight is not the binmens fault although if you ask a propper binman the new breed of binman has a very easy job in comparasson to the old style where they lifted things with their arms etc

on the once a fortnight thing a lot of councils ie : blackburn with darwen to put one closer to home reverted to weekly collections but on the flip side they charge to remove any rubbish you have like sofas , beds etc where as our council do it for free - (eventually)

if the binmen feel they are getting screwed then they have the tool of strike to use and their employers can end strike action by been more fair

Yea, i got the leaflet too - not as bad for us as this week is our recycling bags/box so can cope with that but if it had been the bins think I'd have been spitting feathers too Shurm

Nothing wrong with once a fortnight collections. Family of five and even when we had babies and nappies never had a problem with the bin being full. Often find it's those that don't recycle that end up with a full grey bin.

Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!

Is it all bin collections that are affected? It is our black bin week tomorrow and there haven't been any leaflets in our area

Industrial Action - 20 July 2014

It looks to me from this if you have a recycling collection tomorrow (Thursday) that is cancelled and you will have to wait until the next due date. One day only affected.

Perhaps our irregularly posting Council Member can explain why some areas received notices while others didn't?
Four weeks between collection of recyclables we could cope with, but 4 weeks for the black (grey) bins is ridiculous ours is 3/4 or so full now.

A direct question for Mr Moss or Mr Jones - what do you recommend regarding the overflow of bins?

I won't be holding my breath but one never knows when a surprise can disprove the normal situation.

Re: Public Sector Strike !!! Bins !!!

How are the Council supposed to notify you when they don't know until the day how many workers will actually turn up for work? Some will have informed them they were striking, others didn't.

If you want to know about refuse you would be better off emailing Councillor Paul Cox the portfolio holder for Environmental Services. Here is a link to his page for contact details Councillors - Paul Cox

He probably wont reply today, he is doing a charity bike ride from Liverpool to Leeds. If you're quick you might catch him up, he just past Burnley according to his recent tweet.

I think you absolutely right, the fact that some families still don't attempt to recycle, and just chuck everything into the black bin is a self inflicted problem.
Yet these people are some of the first to complain that the bin has not been emptied, yet do naff all to support the recycling system.

It is only a bin full of rubbish, are we so dependant on the council to do everything for us that a missed collection tips us over the edge.
