Snow Ploughs

What happened to them putting the plough on the front and pushing the snow to one side? you never see them doing it now

When it snowed on Saturday the plough went along Church St. despite the snow on the road it had the plough up and just whizzed by

do they only plough when it is a certain depth?

Anyone know how close the plough blade is to the road?

Don't know but they used to build a wall of snow at the side of my car that was about 18" deep, I don't miss that!
