Some recent questions asked at Morecambe Tourist Information Office
"Have you got a street map of Morecambe?"
"Are they still having a car boot sale in Accrington?" "When is the next Tea Bag Folding Class?" "Is Westgate on Sunday?" (Tourist comes up to the desk holding Isle of Man ferry timetable and price list) "Have you got an Isle of Man ferry time table and price list?" "Whereabouts on the coast is Newcastle-Under-Lyme?" "I want to take out a summons on somebody who owes me money. What should I do?" "My smoke alarm keeps going off every 15 minutes. Can you help me?" (Tourist points to Morecambe Bay) "Is that the Indian Ocean?" "Will the Red Arrows be inside The Platform this year?"  It was question 2 which attracted my attention. (my italics)

It's not just Morecambe.
I used to work in a well known bookshop on Charing Cross Road in London and one day an elderly American tourist came into the shop and asked me "Do you sell books?". I replied that we did and indicated with a sweep of my hand the shop filled with books stacked to the ceiling. "No" she said, "I mean REAL books" - ?????????

No, I never did find out what she meant. She muttered darkley to her companion and tottered out. Another favourite was giving directions to American tourists, only to watch them leave the shop and wander off in exactly the wrong direction.
