Re: The glorious leader must live!

Maybe Councillor Britcliffe, LM, should get Max Clifford in as his publicity agent.

On second thoughts, maybe not; he'll probably charge the fees on expenses.

I've said I'll do his P.R.

I'm much cheaper than Max Clifford.

I only charge £43,000.00 annually, for help and advice 24/7.

Lets be honest here , now that Jack Straw is no longer a front bencher I doubt invites are in short supply . Think about it , who would you invite from Blackburn to a Palace garden party, Margo Grimshaw , most of them think a table cloth is a communal serviette

Well you won't be going.

'Serviette'?

Very non-U.

The royal we say napkin.

Every Council in GB get invites, plus other members of the public, in most authorities is usually the Mayor and Mayoress that represent the Borough, MPs also get an invite plus guest

The problem is that there are only 168 hours in a week for publicity purposes.

If only the previous Labour government hadn't stuck so stubbornly to the Gregorian calendar....

As much as Peter Britcliffe is derided for it, love or loath him, most people know who he is.

If you ask the residents of the borough who the leader of the Labour group on the council was, I bet 95% wouldn't know the correct answer.

Miles Parkinson is so low profile he doesn't feature on most peoples' radar.

True, actions speak louder than words.

Though that doesn't help at the ballot box, if people don't know what actions you've done.

King Kenny has probably a higher public profile than Cllr. Parkinson.

You might want to offer him a few tips.

An example of that being Neil.

Who last week said he was at a meeting at Scaitcliffe House, and couldn't recall the Labour leader's name.

If someone involved with community groups doesn't know it, you can bet the average voter doesn't.

I think there may have been a little bit of artistic licence with memory going on there. Peter has also developed a similar 'joke' whereby he pretends he can't remember my name in public meetings.

He certainly remembers it in private.

I have often said G. that if you stood outside the Golden Cross on a Saturday morning and stopped 100 people, no matter which ward they live in and ask them who there councillor is, 99% would say Peter Britcliffe. In the days when I was involved we used to get phone calls from every part of Hyndburn, it was very hard telling some one from Rishton that Peter wasn't their councillor, I'm sure that doesn't happen today

Yes, I'm one of the lucky few.

Who actually have him at my beck and call.

Living in his ward.

I never thought of that.

Some memories might suddenly improve after May.

I can believe every word, although I regret to inform you that Cllr Britcliffe is almost universally panned in Rishton, even by the Conservative voters, for a perceived discrimination towards Oswaldtwistle.

It isn't just me.

As far as my own recognition goes, most people have that 'I've seen you somewhere' look when they spot me but I suspect the majority still don't really know who I am yet.

That's probably more due to switching on the Christmas lights the other year.

Okay Said Fred, weren't cheap, certainly compared to the £6,000.00 the Glee tribute band cost last Christmas, but you did put on a very good show.
