Sounds like self defence to me.
If the guy who was trying to rob this pensioner had not broken into the house, then he would still be alive today.
The man was protecting himself, his property and his elderly sick wife.
That a burglar has died means that there is one less villain on the streets to cause upset to his victims his parents and the community in general.
I cannot see how it was murder anyway, it was NOT premeditated.

do not forget the guy from norfolk a few years ago that shot someone breaking in. got sent down and refused to say sorry for his actions which did not help his sentence. the law gives asses a bad name.

that would be the farmer Tony Martin...he served three years of a five year jail sentence...I think that the law changed as a result of this case....and that a householder can use disproportionate force, if it can be shown that they acted in the heat of the moment to defend themselves.

In any case it would NOT be murder as it was not premeditated...and if the burglar had not been there he would be alive today.
This man should be given a medal not a jail sentence...he has saved the tax payer a lot of money.
You do not need a trial when someone is caught in a place that they should not be, also going equipped for burglary....carrying a screwdriver....he had not gone into this man's house to change a plug!

If media sources are to be believed, then the burglar who was stabbed was a career criminal, with a family who are also involved in crime(father currently in jail).
So the chap who protected himself and stabbed him, most definitely did the country a favour.
The family members of the burglar are saying that although he was a criminal, he did not deserve to die.

Well, of course they would say that. According to them he was a loving family man...they take absolutely no account of the lives this criminal has affected.
He preyed on the elderly and infirm.
He will no longer be doing anymore of that.
And for those out there who feel that this is harsh...I would say, if you live by the sword, then you should expect to die by the sword.

It has been appalling to see how the police have behaved in regard to this situation....the family of this career criminal have been leaving floral tributes and the neighbours have been tearing these down(rightly so).
The police have told the folk removing these tributes that they could be prosecuted for breaching the peace.
Maybe it is because the family of the dead burglar are gypsies(the term they use themselves).
Since when did the criminal fraternity have rights which override those of a law abiding community?
why should a community fear reprisals if they take down the tributes left to this criminal?
What has happened to the police protecting and upholding the law?
Please do not tell me that it is because there are not enough of them...that doesn't wash...police resources can be found when it is needed....just not for community issues.
It seems that these do not matter much..despite the fact that we pay for them

similar incident down the road from me. lad had his car nicked by some low life. hit a wall, wrote the car off and killed himself. guess what, usual comments about being a lovely son and caring member of the community and the floral tributes arrived. were quickly pulled down, do not know by who but the car was this lads pride and joy. remember if i decide to run amock down livingstone road this afternoon and kill myself and a number of fans please take all flowers down. i was not a lovely son but a pain in the neck to my parents and a lot of the community i live in well i could not care a jot for em.

Those actions of the family members is shameful.
They should be ashamed of this man who was killed...but then they won't be, because it is a lifestyle carried on by many of the family.

The pensioner who was unfortunate enough to come face to face with this criminal...he defended himself and his home.
In defending himself the burglar was killed.(he did the country and the taxpayer a huge favour...we will not be paying for this man in prison, he will no longer be able to fleece and rob the old and the vulnerable)
This pensioner can no longer return to his home for fear of reprisals. How can this be?
He has to sell up and move home. This is not an easy thing at his time of life

I really don't know, but as he was a prolific offender, it is hoped that he would.
Not that it would have made one iota of difference to the way in which he conducted his life.
