Re: Would AccyWebbers like a Parliamentary hustings?

I appreciate the humour Tealeaf. I guess you were thinking that is an election for the Constituency of Sickle and Hammer East.

However there was a British Legion hustings planned which has been lost. I believe some people would be interested. My view is to be accountable.

Well according to Conservative Central Office in London, there's at least one that is redundant, and remains unwanted.

They experienced falling numbers, and it was probably a good idea to close the Conservative Club, and re-open it as a non-affiliated social club.

Apparently they still have meetings there, which is nice, as it has more facilities than if they hired a phone box.

To be fair to the Rishton Conservative club, they're not against other parties having meetings in their function room and are very welcoming on the whole. They also do an excellent spread with proper ale.

A good capitalist, would allow anyone into their premises, as long as the price is right.

I'll pass on the details about Rishton, to my friends in the Transgender Neo-Nazis NW Branch.

No Garinda, in fact the ACC (Association of Conservative Clubs) who's office is within CCO, have only recently taken over as trustees of the club

I think the public need to be made aware of this.

You don't want anyone social walking in there, under the misunderstanding that it was an ordinary social club, as the new name seems to suggest.

The illuminated sign outside still says Oswaldtwistle and Church Conservative Club, if they can read one sign they can read um both

Seems rather odd then.

All the fanfare and publicity in the press the other year, about it being renamed, and relaunched as the 'Oswaldtwistle Social Club'.

Makes no difference really the building is owned by the ACC and that can't be changed

Stil seems an odd thing to do.

To rename something, for no good reason.

A little like that daft plan from a couple of years back, to change the name of the borough, until an angry public outcry, regarding the massive costs involved versus any benefits, caused an embarrassing climb-down, and thankfully a complate U-turn.

Is Peter Britcliffe planning to change the name of that too?

My, my, he is influential down in London...just not at Conservative Central Office.
