Next meeting is on Thursday 7th November 7.30pm -'Love & Romance in Victorian Lancashire' The speaker is Sid Calderbank from Chorley. £2 on the door for non-members. I am hoping to be sitting on the back row with Katex or Atarah

Next meeting is on Thurday 5th December 7.30pm when noted historian Alan Crosby will talk about turnpikes 1750-1850. Just up your street. Doubtless, Blind Jack of Knaresborough will get a mention. He was responsible for Blackburn Rd. Remember it was me who toll you so.

Dobbo tha at it again, Blind Jack o Knaresborough had nowt to to with Blackburn Rd, Jack was responcible for the main rd coming from Whalley to Haslingden Circa 1792. Blegburn ruad ed tu wayt another few years as did Burnley ruad

I don't know where I got this info from, but in the 50s I read a book about him by Garry Hogg and seem to remember that Blackburn Rd was mentioned. I wondered as to how a blind chap could do what he did, and marvelling that he walked at t'-top of eawr street. I'll pay particular attention on Thursday.

Next meeting is on Thursday 6th Feb ( 7.30pm-9pm) in the library when a chap from Preston will talk about Lancashire's ports. £3 fee for non-members.

Next meeing is Thursday 4th December when local historian Les Hardy is talking about Dunkenhalgh & the Petres. He is THE authority on the subject. 7.30pm start £2 for non-members. See the society's website.
