Drumming workshops
Hyndburn Mela and Community Festival in conjunction with Oswaldtwistle Players Sparks group are putting on two days of dhol drumming workshops on Tuesday 24th July and Thursday 26th July, 10am – 3pm at Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre.
The drumming workshops are run by Dhamak, a dhol drumming group, and are for 11 to 16 year olds and cost £2 per day. The purpose is to create drumming performances for the Drums Alive event on 28th July in Accrington Town Centre and also for the Mela and Community Festival itself on the 29th July at Oakhill Park.
Everyone who takes part in the workshops will be invited to take part in the battle of the bands drumming performances at either or both of these events.
Already taking part in the events are drumming groups formed at St Christophers and Moorhead Schools.
Places on the workshops must be booked in advance by contacting Gayle on 01254 387851.

Re: Drumming workshops
I would like to suggest that you don't try and hold a meeting in the same building as Gayle has a drumming session going on. We did at Ossy town hall and it was a little noisy. The funny thing is that Gayle booked two rooms at the same time on the same day, one for drumming and one for the Friends of Rhyddings Park meeting. Thanks Gayle it was funny trying to listen to Andy at the same time as the drums were being bashed. It sounded like a scene from Tarzen when the bad white hunters were coming.

Re: Drumming workshops
Yes, it was a little noisy.
I had the theatre booked for a drama workshop when I booked downstairs for the meeting - then only got told on the day that the drummers who are going to run the full workshops were just turning up that night for a demo! Oops.
Couldn't cancel either at that point. But Andy carried on valliantly and at least it kept most of us awake

Re: Drumming workshops
I've got my own dhol but I don't think I'd pass for 16.
It should be great fun though for those who are interested. I remember a couple of years ago when we had them in the Carnival when the girls and I were in it.

Re: Drumming workshops
The Drums Alive group were performing in Accrington today.
They were brilliant, and had gathered a good crowd to watch and listen.

Re: Drumming workshops
I didn't see you or would have come over for a chat (well, as much as I could chat with the noise of the drumming going on)
Glad you enjoyed it. There's more going on tomorrow.

I saw the last two performances, fantastic sound and the passion that those people put into their playing was tremendous. Hope to see them again.
