Post Public Viewing of Historical DVD

At last a date has been set for the public viewing of the Historical DVD that Lee and I have been corroborating on since January this year.

It's at

Accrington Library in the Lecture room upstairs

on Saturday 28th May 2011

7.30 pm for 8.00 pm start

Our MP Graham Jones will be opening the proceedings

The DVD lasts for an hour and focuses on the history of Plantation Road, the properties in the area and their past residents. For more info check out the Accrington Observer article at this link

http://menmedia.co.uk/accringtonobse...st-famous-road

Entry is free and there will be copies of the DVD available to order or purchase on the night [depending on numbers] at a nominal fee to cover the cost of production - £2.00

look forward to seeing you there. If you're on Accrington Web introduce yourself. It's always nice to put a face to a name

I can't make it to the viewing but I'll definitely be buying a copy. Congratulations Mike and Lee - looks like a nice project.

Re: Public Viewing of Historical DVD

Well, as no one else has commented I'm pleased to say the evening public viewing of the DVD was a great success. We had around 70 peeps attend and but for a scary start with the equipment all went well and it was received enthusiastically.

Unfortunately, due to some technical hitches I did not have the completed copy to my own satisfaction available on the night and I was actually kept busy for a further week ironing out some glitches and inserting further relevant information. Copies are now available in Accrington's library to loan or purchase. They can also be bought at the One Planet shop in Abbey Street, Accrington.

If there was anyone attending from Accy web they were too shy to introduce themselves! My grateful thanks to all who did attend and helped make the night such a great succes and an even greater encouragement. I am also hugely grateful to Katherine, librarian, who accommodated us for the evening and my two friends Alex and Sheila for attending to the brews afterwards. I'm also very grateful to Graham Jones our MP for giving up his time to introduce the evening.

The evening had barely finished before I was asked when the next DVD showing would be! Well, it will take a lot of research for the 'Acorn Trail' but I hope it will prove to be as interesting to everyone when it it is completed - some time towards the end of the year.

Re: Public Viewing of Historical DVD

A new problem has arisen that I would appreciate anyone's advice on. I didn't anticipate that some of the older DVD players that people have might struggle or even refuse to work completely with the format I used for the DVD.

For anyone who is technically up on these things - I have burned the project to disk using Windows DVD maker in AVI format. I was led to understand that this apparently is the most popular format and should work on most DVD models. However, I am getting some reports back of DVDs not running, which is as frustrating for me as I am sure it will be for those with older equipment. I will of course replace or reimburse for any copies that refuses to perform on their players. In the meanwhile I am experimenting with different formats and will let everyone know when I succeed. Any advice or suggestions will be gratefully received.
