St James Church, Altham

Today and tomorrow there is an Open Weekend at this fabulous old church, to commemorate 500 years of this present church building.

There are historic documents to see, guided tours, a Victorian ice cream seller. It's a beautiful old Church, and it's not that often you get the chance to have a good look inside.

Opening hours today were 10.00/4.00 and tomorrow there is a church service then afterwards at 11.00 it is open again until 3.00.

As you just go through the gates off the main road there's a headstone with the name Harold Hatch 8 years old died 1943.he was a classmate at Mount Pleasant, was drowned in the canal, falling from the turnbridge.I remember going to his parents house in Burnley road with other's from our class at this sad time.I do stop occasionally when going that way and spend a few minutes to remember.
