Even though i technically dont start till saturday, i got a phone call this morning asking if i will go in tomorrow to start my training. Really looking forward to it and hopefully will enjoy it, seems like a good bunch of people who work there so i cant really see any problems.
Good Luck, hope it leads to something more permanent

Had my first day there today. Really enjoyed it, spent the first hour learning all the health and safety things and how to wash my hands properly (seriously). Then was pretty much left serving customers for the rest of the day, and apart from short changing a guy by a pound (he pointed it out and i realised my mistake and corrected it) and dropping a sausage roll it went faultlessly (is that a real word). Plus i have now had monday added to my permanent hours so already its gone from being one day to two. I can see this working out really well. So thanks for all the advice people its really helped and i owe you all a beer (that would be a rather expensive round of drinks).
The Saturday job will give you experience and hopefully a reference if you apply for another job in the future. Who knows, maybe they'll have full time work for you soon! Well done !!

Typical. Now that im working everyone wants to offer me a job. Had a phone call off an agency offering me work till christmas in a warehouse. And asda Rang me asking me to attend an interview tomorrow which i cant attend because im working. (Shame really because id quite like working at asda aswell. But oh well what can you do.
ok, a bit of a thead wander , what is all this stuff I keep reading about of 'job agencies" don't employers hire direct ? why should an employee or an employer have to pay some commision to an "agency" whats going on here ...apart from sleazy tax rip off.
thought that what was unemployment offices were for
Employers use agencies to get employees without having to hire and fire directly. The employee should get the rate of pay as advertised by the agency and not get ripped off. The agency is their employer. Some of the agency placements can end up as permanent jobs . Its all down to what the firms want/need at the time I suppose.

The agencies take a percentage of the wage, the benefits from the employers point of view is that they dont have to give the usual notice period before releasing staff. I have done loads of agency work and its not for me anymore, need some security in my work now. Really enjoying working at sayers, the staff there are so friendly and the customers seem to like me (some a little too much but i suppose ill get used to that lol). Plus i have been informed that the company will pay for my food hygiene certificate, plus my wage goes up in october. So by the looks of it this job is going to work out well.
