Acc Station 1967

Just came across this old slide that had been filed in the wrong place and thought it would be of interest to the Railway Gang. Not having made notes I am guessing it was taken from Platform 4, the Bay Platform behind No 5, the Blackburn Platform. Comments please,and whose chimney is that ?

The view is looking up the Baxenden incline with H&B (Globe Works) in the right background. I imagine that the chimney is from somewhere at the bottom of Wellington street, can't remember the mills name.

The building on the right was next to the branch line from the direction of Manchester in the direction of Blackburn (forming the traingular rail line pattern of Accy station.). On the left is the remains of the platform where you caught a train to Manchester.

Chimney is Broad Oak, I think.

At a total guess i would say it's Highams.

Darby had an excellent description and the Factory was originally Broad Oak Mill and later referred to as "New Mill" and is located behind the site of the old Baths in St James St. Or as Darby said at the end of Wellington St ( Cotton St End). Have found this piccy taken after Chimney was Demolished and showing at the right Tom Hodgson`s Toffee Works. Janet mentioned Higham`s Chimney -- but that is to the right of the railway line as it climbs up Baxenden Bank.
