Accrington 1848 map

some of you may possibly have seen this map before, but for those of you who have not then it's well worth having a look at. It can be accessed on the Ordnance Survey Website - old maps...just type in Accrington for location. You can enlarge to see detail such as wells (no plumbing then) and you can see the location of the iron foundry where the town hall now stands. It's well worth a look.....anyway, to make things easier, heres most of the link:

just type in Accrington on location. It's a fasinating thing and you can spend ages looking at the fields where your house now is. However, if you're on dial-up, it can take a little while to download.
